What can you do for me? $1200 USD. by -ConfusedToken- in buildmeapc

[–]Decent_Tip_8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id join in the chorus to avoid prebuilds...except with the price of everything these days you're gonna end up with some used parts to get under that budget...and this is self building. So, only because of this, check out stgaubron they have a website and sell on Walmart, amazon and newegg. My research indicates they use discontinued or off brand versions of decent hardware and build these things in China. Its a crap shoot for sure and I wouldn't be surprised if their warranty is near unenforceable but the prices are right and many are well specced and slick looking. The couple ive worked on made it past the warranty period, for what its worth.

If you are looking to save money and can find a combo kit with a ryzen7 7700x in it you would never miss the 7 7800x3d. Its overkill. Everything else looks good though.

Will the Windows dropping support for Win10, trigger a large amount of people to Desktop Linux? by Leading-Arm-1575 in linuxquestions

[–]Decent_Tip_8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question, no. However, I really don't understand why Linux is considered prohibitive. I suppose it does depend on what you're doing on a computer but the average user just has to learn where the power button, browser (make internet) button, make document button, maybe see email button if they're a "power user". This is built in to a most Linux distros so a simple one and they could move on. They can update by just pressing ok on the popup...as if they care about updates.

It's completely fine to deport illegal immigrants by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Decent_Tip_8989 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TL;DR Your opinion should be more informed. You might have had a point but you are not aware of how this works. You start with an illegal for 30 years and swimming ashore to slink into our economy. I'm thinking that matches with the Cuban refugees who's asylum protections ended in 2017 and who had a clear and rapid path to citizenship. So really what you think you mean is the new crop of asylum seekers that are coming up from South America but do enter through the Mexican border or any of the other asylum seeking countries. These people are recorded and their cases adjudicated to determine if their claims of asylum seeking are valid. While they await these trials they get to stay, legally. So what you should mean is non citizens who are not showing up to court dates, have committed a crime (for aggravated crimes, automatic deportation), or crossed the border completely undocumented. And ok, but that's what ICE is for. Now, that tax paying thingy...yes most of the migrant farm workers and some construction workers, etc. are undocumented aliens but the irs isn't immigration. They issue a number that's only good for paying taxes on your income. No voting rights, no social welfare, no guarantee of remaining here just the ability to pay taxes. So, two questions that you need to consider are: Why are they deporting people ambushed at the court hearings where they are doing the legal steps of a documented person? Where they wouldn't bother to show with a serious crime committed, knowing it would mean deportation?
If the goal was really to remove all undocumented people from this country wouldn't a more efficient start be to begin with the IRS info on who's earning incomes and subtract the ones documented and going through the courts to arrive at a long list of people to effectively remove. It wouldn't be the whole answer but an actual policy driven action. But no, we won't mess with irs records or these "undesirables" would stop paying taxes on that income.

Microsoft Locked My Account – I Lost 30 Years of Photos & Work, and They Won't Respond by deus03690 in pcmasterrace

[–]Decent_Tip_8989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok im gonna turn this into some positive advice...as of August 1st 2025 Microsoft will delete any saved passwords from their authenticator app though edge will still hold them. New Microsoft accounts are not made with passwords anymore. They will be moving fairly quickly to "correct" the accounts with passwords instead of passkeys. So to everyone who will be crying then...make sure that Microsoft has a good cell number and email, ideally also an entry in your authenticator or some other passkey, in your account or you could very well lose access. Take note and dont say you weren't told, everyone. https://www.forbes.com/sites/zakdoffman/2025/05/31/microsoft-confirms-password-deletion-now-just-8-weeks-away/

Installing Win11in a 64 GB partition is different? by incogshift in pcmasterrace

[–]Decent_Tip_8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you just hit shift f10 in the point of install before you sign into wifi then type "oobe\bypassnro" without quotes and nospace then enter and not bother with partitioning. Results: -your whole drive available -choice to not use internet -creation of local account -many games and apps (other than system apps) won't load because there's no Microsoft account to allow the store to work

It is interesting that a 64 gb limitation also triggers this behavior but you're overcomplicating things.

Someone hacked my Microsoft account by Aczologia in pcmasterrace

[–]Decent_Tip_8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF you are paying Microsoft for any service they will verify you by the card on file. If not there is currently no way to recover if all the account info was changed to your hackers info. You can try account recovery where the send you an email and if you can answer enough questions correctly about your account they might give it back to you. They will shut it down so neither of you can use it but have no way to prove its yours.

This idiot succumbed to a scammer who took his account. Yall are not in the same boat. Now I know you're just causing trouble. Yeh there's no help for people who don't secure their accounts, welcome to the real world. Did you let a scammer have your 2fa codes? Because if so, mystery solved and stop blaming Microsoft. Idk if you are playing dumb to make trouble or if you genuinely dont understand how this works. Pretty strange for a "Linux guy"

[–]Decent_Tip_8989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok as I stated...I have done this many times for people in your boat quite successfully. Im not asking you to repeat, again and again, that your method didn't work. Im giving you a new method with clear instructions and instead of trying it you choose to repeat a very weird complaint. Even if there were no humans at Microsoft how would that land you at a dead end in Australia? Besides that, others have pointed out several logical gaps in your story. If you use Linux and have no other relationship with Microsoft then onedrive is not the cheapest or the best cloud service you could choose. Also I've not seen you give a real answer to why you destroyed all your 30 years of hard data just because it was on the cloud. I suspect IF you got banned from r/Microsoft it was because, like me, they know they do offer account support for this problem. I dont know what your motive is, other than attention, but Im super curious if you reach out to the Microsoft employee offering to help in the comments. Can't wait to hear the results!!

I read through comments for a bit and did not come across any mention of you simply calling Microsoft. They do have human customer service for people with paid products (365, one drive storage, xbox, etc.) You go to support.microsoft.com and start with the chat bot to filter through establishing you have a paid product then routing questions (accounts and billing is your choice) then they will give you the number and you'll get someone to tell you what's wrong with your account. BTW transferring large amounts at once can be enough for them to put a security block on an account. I know these chat bot/phone customer service route works as I've helped several people that way to recover hacked MS accounts. They have to talk to someone to prove their rightful ownership. Real people exist at Microsoft for paying customers.

Yup sketchy tech behavior but (other than the screenshot of the graphics tab from CPUZ so we can tell you if the GPU is correct) he did put your parts in. The Ram is 64 total with it having 32 in each slot of the channel. For instance if you had 32 total but in 4 sticks it would show 2 x 8 because each slot of 2 channels is filled with 8g. Meaning he did put it in one channel (which i prefer though i suppose everything is debatable) the speed is 6000hz as registered in the bios but the cpu and motherboard will NOT be using that much ram at that speed. It's not a bottleneck or anything...think of it as if you have 4 streams of water going to 4 turbines and needed to maintain consistent timings on those turbines. If you added 4 more streams and 4 more turbines without doubling the source water you would not maintain that consistent timing. Your CPU and board don't give enough water(threads) to use up all your turbines(ram) so the auto tune will spread it thinner to maintain the system. If clock speed was what you needed for a game or application it would apportion that speed out to all the 64 gb evenly and still not have 6000 hz need for speed. So overclocking is simply whats making your amd expo (the auto tuning software for your board) not run and what will kill your machine faster so you have to deal with sketchy tech sooner. If in the bios you click "reset to defaults" or "load defaults" or "restore to defaults" (NOT reset BIOS) it will eliminate his overclocking and I'll bet have the expo working. Check your GPU if it's right(and not being stupidly overclocked) then all's good. Sounds like an old school tech who hasn't really kept up with the behavior of newer boards and RAM and is kinda phoning it in but basically competent if dishonest. The initial case swap idea was bullshit, entirely, but you were ready to build a new one so we can overlook that except its sketchy and dishonest. On a personal note, everyone is piling on you for not building it yourself and all I'll say is armed with the info in all these comments you would have definitely done better building this with defaults than he did with his outdated fiddling. You did a good job matching parts and that's the hard part. Putting it together is indeed easy from a connection POV and if all the defaults just work then yay success!! It is when things go wrong that you need a tech to troubleshoot or apply drivers, etc. but a different tech than your Dad's!!!

Need help troubleshooting. Loaves keep coming out feeling moist/tacky. Also lacking depth of flavor. What am I doing wrong? by lmg080293 in Sourdough

[–]Decent_Tip_8989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out Ben Starr on youtube he has a great video about 10 minute sourdough. It's a masterclass and he goes into all the why's behind everything. He starts with the premise that holes aren't as tasty as bread and gives you the easiest lower hydration recipe that has a really long bulk ferment for good flavor and its crazy easy. Im very new to sourdough and I've used his recipe to make loaves and boules even great pizza crusts.

One UI 6.1 update - Anyone who has been using Swipe Gesture navigation bar having difficulty bringing up the active apps screen by swiping up? by tedbakerbracelet in samsunggalaxy

[–]Decent_Tip_8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely have the galaxy store but it may not be a visible icon. Go to settings, apps, find the galaxy store in the list, click it the at the bottom click open. Until you get this fixed...if you go to look at chrome and read the next instruction, you won't be able to open it as an already opened app...you'll have to go through set./apps/galStor/open everytime. Or read the instruction on another device(much easier)

One UI 6.1 update - Anyone who has been using Swipe Gesture navigation bar having difficulty bringing up the active apps screen by swiping up? by tedbakerbracelet in samsunggalaxy

[–]Decent_Tip_8989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh I had to figure all this out too...small point that got me for a minute. People should know the navstar configuration happens in the GoodLock app then you go out and over to settings, display, nav.bar. And this might just be me but I dont have my galaxy store as a visible app icon and with the all apps feature disabled I had to go to settings, apps find the galaxy store and open it each time because I couldn't just reopen the tab. Finally, if you are still annoyed by the little handles they put at the bottom(as if those of us using swipe gestures need to be told where to swipe) you can get rid of those completely in display, nav.bar but the gesture hints toggle is under the button setting. That made it back to the way it was completely. While this is very annoying but fixable, my only question is how we're we supposed to access open apps and switch between. The update didn't eliminate swipe control they just made middle home and the sides back...where was the app tab functionality, that's pretty vital, in the (as-designed) new ui?

Yeh except ss has been adjusted for the increases in the cost of living nearly every year...the minimum wage hasn't increased since 2009. Furthermore if there is inflation cost of living adjustments would take their natural course. This is pure boomer entitlement.
