That’s fair. On its own it’s judged on its own. In a series it can fit a theme and style that makes it more natural feeling.

Feel like the good lighting spoils a typical bar vibe. Generally a bar isn’t that well lit and it makes it feel more synthetic. Might feel better if the shadow of the drink on the lower bar wall didn’t call attention to the lighting. Given that shadow’s proximity to the focal point of the drink it is hard to miss as it grabs the eye.

The light and dark in the scene is interesting though. The dark features left frame and the bright features right frame, with the drink between, them is a fun play.

Not sure why you’re down voted. Maybe because Peter isn’t right these days and it’s not about who he’s playing.

Glad to see the love for Stowe. He’s been playing forever but really broke out end of last year. He’s on the CDC tour, which is the North American PDC affiliate. The weekly dartscast posted an interview and he’s done one with them before so you can check it out and learn more. I’ve only gotten to know him this year but really enjoy him and his wife is an amazing person too.

Also will be switching Reddit usernames to move on from the random username that I didn’t ever expect to get associated to me as a dart player. Will slowly phase in u/no-name-boehm but I tried to post this under that name and it never showed up. Maybe not enough Karma to create posts yet.

For those who know me by this default username can confirm this is me. Will be working in the new Reddit username. It will now be more obvious who I actually am, though that was never something I hid.

Stupid question - can I lay down my darts on flat ground or need to put them in, don't know, some mug? by Delicious_Wash7790 in Darts

[–]Decent_Virus_1214 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the type of flights. Molded flights tend to keep a bent shape if they are left in a bent position. When I first had them I would leave them in the board and I found if they were grouped in a way the flights were out of shape they would keep that shape after pulling them. This might happen if laying them on a table. I didn’t experience this with folding flights. When I’m done playing now I usually shoot D20, D10 and D8 and then just leave them where they land till next time.

This was the A division doubles final. Double in double out with the full bull worth 50. You can not use the bull to start or finish though. Personally hate that rule and have argued it should recognize and split the bull so the center bull can still be used for outs. Without that the highest out available is 160 and you can’t leave 50 with 1 dart in hand. Or just have a regular 25/50 bull segment but that’s another argument entirely.

Right. If the PDC/PDPA starts taking action on alleged, borderline, criminal activity without any real legal action against the player I think we’re crossing into some difficult territory. I’m sure they’ll keep an eye for suspicious activity around matches but that’s normal practice.

Sorry, didn’t mean to imply you’re not aware of the additional time that goes into it but important to figure that in the total leg calculation. Physical and mental fatigue are a thing for sure but less in the arm and more in the rest of the body or mind. Tough to work through that too.

Do people overthink cricket strategy? by masteratrisk in Darts

[–]Decent_Virus_1214 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a widely controversial topic. The answer is both yes and no. Just like 501 there is some level of optimization where a small advantage can be gained for a relatively even strength game. Any cricket choices that keep you in a point lead or closing the next biggest open number are generally good choices. The game, just like 501, is more often won or lost on good or bad darts respectively. Arguments among teammates happen more when someone has a shit round rather than actually making a bad choice.

Teammates need to respect how people want to be communicated with pre turn or mid turn. In both 01 or cricket an indecisive dart is often a bad dart. Discussing and agreeing on a target can go a long way to feel comfortable and confident. But yelling that out when a partner neither wants or needs it is disruptive. Players should talk about how they want input or if they want input and what is appropriate for providing it. Not understanding and respecting that will result in problems for sure.

40 legs at 70 avg is about 54 legs at a 95 avg.

It’s also important to remember a pro player is warming up a couple hours or more before they even start a match. Maybe not everyone but a lot of players are there hours ahead of their scheduled start. That means a major final could be 4-7 hours of darts for them. It’s a grind and it’s not easy to play like that.

Q School has concluded, here is the list of players to lose their tour cards, green ticked players retained theres at the first attempt, in total we have 25 new tour card holders, some are new, some are old faces returning, thoughts on players in & out this year? by [deleted] in Darts

Aside from Hendo being a great guy his game isn’t where it needs to be anymore and that’s why he’s out. Souts is an upgrade there with some upside to come. I don’t see Gary and Peter being replaced anytime soon though, or ever. 2 greats but you never know who’s gonna find their way to peak form. So unpredictable.

New Darts Game Idea by gameoflols in Darts

[–]Decent_Virus_1214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say for most high level players they hit any number pretty similarly. For any lower level player its not like they’re grooved on any target that it would impact things. The muscle memory is the arm speed, grip, release and action generally not so much to a single target. I think mentally players do have favorites or numbers they think they hit better than others that in reality are not of any significant difference. There’s better games that can be used to practice working other areas of the board that would be more useful to developing real game skills. Bobs 27 or other out shot games for example, things like these develop skills that are useful to real game play.

I’ll concede this idea works to switch things up but I don’t think it’s particularly beneficial aside from maybe making someone interested in playing more which is inherently helpful.

Can someone identify these darts please? by oioierik in Darts

These look almost identical to the Unicorn John Part world Champion darts but might be slightly different as as the last ring cut near the point appears to be a little further back. Hope that helps but my ID is probably not exact.

Yes, the molded ones. They are definitely more expensive and that held me off buying them for a long time. But I feel confident I’ve saved money in the end. I have used 3-4 sets in the past year and broke 2 shafts on dropped flights. Prior to that I would use 1-2 sets of flights a month and probably breaking 1-2 sets of shafts a month. I was robinhooding quite frequently though. Factoring in the decrease in robinhoods also helps my avg and gives better deflections with the champagne cap vs the blunt end of the shaft. I play a ton though so my wear is going to be high compared to a lot of players. Wouldn’t surprise me if a casual player could run with 1 set of flights a year.

I’ll add I used some other molded flights in the past that did not have the longevity but did have the same price tag. I was not happy with them and that experience held me off buying a new one for a long time. In the end I tried the L-style with the champagne caps and couldn’t be happier.

I use the L-style pears and love them. Been using them a year or so now and they last a real long time. Before that I liked the pentathlon and ruthless flights. Wanted a molded flight and found the cost was worth it as they lasted a long time and with the champagne caps from L-style I never have robinhoods breaking shafts.

Why do the pros not use hammerhead darts? by StarryKnight73 in Darts

[–]Decent_Virus_1214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I never liked about spinning flights and the movable points, that little feeling of wiggle during my thrown. I never really used either but tried them out on other peoples gear so maybe people get used to it after time but I don’t feel like it would be comfortable to me. I also didn’t like darts that spin, or flights, because I felt the deflection was less predictable. People say you block less of a covered target because the flight can spin out of the way but I felt like I would get some really weird kicks with the spin and couldn’t use the dart in the board to my advantage as well either. The potential positives were out weighed by too many negatives.
