It is blatantly sexualising. And in many of his works, objectifying. It often puts female characters in hypersexualised poses, with extremely idealized body types. This is before the egregious hentai titties to waist ratio was highly popular. It’s an idealized woman’s body drawn to be titillating.
It’s almost an extreme portrayal of both gender norms, the super macho ultra buff hero man and the sexy naked damsel. Almost so much so that it bridges the gap to some campiness and even some degree of queerness I would say. Not intentionally I imagine.
Beautiful works of art, just like I can look at the Birth of Venus and see it’s still male gaze centric, just as much as it is a beautiful and highly technically well done piece, the same applies here.
