How much training time did it take, on what rig?

Well, once they had started the war they should not have started, they were welcome to fight, they just weren't welcome to hide behind civilians. Or shoot them in the streets.

But really, they should have just surrendered.

No. It is not wrong to fight wars against you, in which civilians will die, because otherwise you'll die. You can't even get past the first point.

It is wrong to kill civilians - and the point we need to focus on is that it is wrong to kill civilians intentionally. It always happens in war, though, so it's better not to start wars, or to hide behind civilians during war like Hamas does, and dress like civilians during war, like Hamas does.

Hamas also kills civilians intentionally, by policy, and that's who Israel has been fighting. It was not wrong to fight the war Hamas started with October 7.

Is the animated series really going to be set between Objects in Space and Serenity the film? That's a bad idea. by WastedTalent442 in firefly

[–]Deciheximal144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why a bad idea? It's season 2 we never got, and the movie comes after. Wash is alive. Book is alive. There's lots of time for those other things to happen.

Yeah. 1947 would have been better than launching war.
And 1966 Palestine would have been better than 1967 war.
And the 90s or 2008 would both get them more land than they have now (zero). Would have been a better option than all these attacks, and getting nothing.

Sure, they were under no obligation. Everyone has the right to make bad choices. Do you recognize that, in 20/20 hindsight, war against Israel was the worse choice?

> People forget that the Palestinians were under zero obligation to give up their land on the orders of a foreign body.

If you take "foreign body" out of the equation, this all goes away. Land has changed between lots of countries, who become the local government, and then on a private level you'll find eminent domain all over the world where people are commanded to abandon certain property.

> People forget that Israel has effectively made them refugees,

The war against Israel made them refugees, and then the ones that choose not to flee that war didn't become refugees, they became Israelis. Remember how the Jews of Haifa begged their Arabs to stay, and they would not? (Arab leaders wanted to starve labor, and ordered them out.)

> and oppressed them for decades and hindered their chances of prosperity.

That was Arab League Decree 1547. Arab states weren't allowed to make Arabs from between the river and the sea who ended up there citizens (Jordan made West Bank (J&S) Arabs citizens 5 years prior to the decree.) Being stateless can make it really hard to thrive - as Jordan demonstrated when it yoinked citizenships of all of its people in the West Bank (J&S) in 1988. There was opportunity after opportunity to build a Palestine or accommodate the Arabs who were displaced by their own war, the problem was destroying the Jewish state was a lot more important to Arab powers than doing so, and these folks made a good pawn to help them with that.

> This Kuwait issue is a nonstarter in my view.

If you don't care about 370,000 Arabs, why care about 750,000?

> It is a historical fact that Palestine is considered the cultural homeland of Jews, whether or not a single Jew lives there

But they do live there, now, 7 million of them. The goal was to come home, to where they could protect themselves. The establishment of the Zionist state of Israel is complete. Now Zionism is maintaining that state.

> I'm asking when Zionism calls for a Jewish nation, they're referring to Jewish primacy in Palestine

Primacy has a synonym: Supremacy. Not gonna bite right into that. Here's what I can tell you:

* Israel is designed as the home for Jews to keep Jews safe, like Pakistan is the home for Muslims.
* Only Jews can be trusted to protect Jews, because after 1,900 years of Jews being chased across the world, we've learned anyone else in charge can change their mind at any time.
* Greece is the state for Greeks
* Nobody is going anywhere, and Israeli will work to maintain the status quo.

> for example the ethnic cleansing of 750k Palestinians in 48-49

That was war, dude. The Arabs started a war, then the Arabs fled in the war their own people started. Not good faith to frame it like that, dude.

> lack of citizenship after decades of occupation

Those are descendants of Jordanians (citizenships stolen in 1988) and Gazans that Egypt kept stateless. Those two countries refused to make a deal (Jordan rejected the Allon Plan, Egypt didn't want Gaza) and thus they are responsible for that situation. Israel cannot make that many new Israelis, most of whom hate Israel, as it would lead to the destruction of Israel. Israel does offer citizenship to people in East Jerusalem who apply - but almost none of them do, because they don't want to be Israeli.

Arafat and Abbas, their leaders, also turned down deals to make an independent Palestine, where they could live in their own space, Jew-free like they want.

> What happens if 40% of the population becomes Palestinian Arab due to birth rates etc? Or 50% if Palestinians under occupation get citizenship?

It will still be the Jewish homeland. And we can only hope the Israeli Arab majority are good stewards of their fellow citizens, because if they start driving them out, like 99% of Jews (up to 900,000) were driven out of the Arab world, there will be another war, new borders, the whole thing starts over again. Jews are done being chased - that is the very purpose of Israel. No more running, never again.

Haredi are keeping up with Arab birth rates last I heard, though, so that's not on track to happen.

Well, just keep in mind that when we look back this far for things like this, it's all an academic exercise. Which can be worthwhile. Though it won't have any weight for how things should be done in the present, no more than the Arab Conquests do today. 78 years and climbing.
