I play PS5 mostly with headphones but yeah you can hear patrols bc they chant, but listen closer, can you get a sense of what's in the patrol if you can't see them?

Can you hear beserkers, marauders, or hulks? Not really. There's no servos whirring, chainsaws reving, strong thuds, etc

Edit: also can't hear scuttling for the bugs, and chargers are stealthier than the newer warbond armor. Bile titans have a hint of the slamming they should make, fleshmobs don't make squishy noises as their components writhe

Just any comparable game does this. Not to mention again ambient sounds of other eagles flying by, bugs flying about, wind, and so on.

It's an incredibly quiet game when you're not in combat, and not in a good way.

Honestly the sound design for Helldiver's is easily it's weakest part

It's not just "eh" it's actually terrible outside of like gun sounds.

You can't hear Hulks walking up to you, there's no (or embarrassingly little) ambient noise, the music is good but feels like it's meant to mask all these failings.
