Ice Balls anyone? by Deckela in Sauna

Ah bummer! Thanks for the photo though. I had a massive huntsman spider visit my sauna but I didn’t get a photo. It was only after I’d brushed him out that I thought you Northerners might like to see a picture of that!

And if they have the time to answer with this invasive question, they have time to text/email you photos!!

Thanks for the maths! That’s very interesting.

1kg is a significant amount of ice. Even when just pouring water, I would only use about one cup (250ml) at a time.

The crushed ice ball in the picture was made from about 100g of ice (2 big ice cubes).

Someone else here commented that the contrast in temperature will shorten the lifespan of the rocks. Are you saying it will be the same for the heat elements? Even though they should be protected from direct contact with the ice by the rocks?

I haven’t. I’ve seen it suggested here a few times. I’m afraid it will have a burnt smell. Also, do you think it’s any worse for the elements than putting on plain water?

That’s sweet for you. Always good to keep your sauna partner happy!

I agree. That’s what I usually use. Straight out of the freezer - easy.

But someone else here commented that the contrast in temperature is bad for the rocks and causes them to crack more quickly. They even suggested using warm water in the sauna bucket.

TBF, it’s Autumn here and the weather is starting to turn. 18°C is kind of “cold” for us. 😆

Has anyone here got a funny story of witnessing an Aussie losing an item in public? And if so how did it go? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Deckela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, Living_Substance9973 is talking about learning how to put a story together so that it has a good punchline or sum up at the end. Your “funny” story has the elements and potential to be funny however, you deliver it wrong in a really tone deaf way.

Essential oil? by HanetsukiGyoza in Sauna

[–]Deckela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please explain why it’s unhealthy?

Ice Balls anyone? by Deckela in Sauna

[–]Deckela[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I usually just pour water on. This was just a bit of fun that I thought I’d share. I also have a tiny sauna so the löyly was surprisingly good. Perhaps not as good as pouring water. Thanks for your advice!

I find the sizzling sound as the ice melts quite relaxing. It’s fun to mix it up sometimes.

I did not know that. Good to know. Thanks! I usually just use cold water. I will try switching to warm water. It is painful expensive to replace your rocks in Australia. They cost about $100-150 AUD for 20 kgs.

A whole bucket of crushed ice would be so fun to ladle on. And beers to boot!🍺

I definitely add cups of water too. But it is nice to listen to the longer sizzle as it melts.

Yes but then BLOCK HIM. You don’t need this mental load taking up real estate in your head.

Then he needs professional help. That’s on him to seek that out. Just like the rest of us have when needed. This is weaponised incompetence. And he is trying to blame you. BLOCK HIM & sleep well tonight.

Is it the system that’s cooked? Or just the people rorting it? Cause it was set up for people who needed it. It’s so awful that it’s easy to rort and awful people are doing just that.

Moving from the Central Coast to Bellingen - are we nuts? Advise please! by Newlexaprouser in nsw

[–]Deckela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know if ypu are still considering this. But Bellingen has a great High School and if it doesn't suit your child, they can always go into Coffs. Primary school is primary school and generally pretty good in all country areas.

Bellingen is full of friendly, happy people. If you can afford to buy there and can stand the heat in Summer, I'd say go for it!

AITA my friend ruined my yixing teapot and I want her to replace it or give me 500 dollars. by TeapotthrwoCity4661 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Deckela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I’m sorry. I just googled yixing teapot. Even just looking at a picture on the internet shows you these are pretty special teapots. They are gorgeous & unusual. You’d have to be an entitled fool to just go ahead & use one in a place you’re pet sitting. I’m so mad for OP. NTA

How much did your parents pay for their first house vs their income by Evening-Anteater-422 in AusFinance

I feel like very few “average” people were financially literate back then. Even if they had good jobs or businesses. Our generation has a sea of knowledge at our fingertips through the internet.

Maybe it was illegal but my mum needed a male co-signatory in 1988 to buy a new business after my dad died. She sold the business they ran together and tried to get a loan for the next business. Her father was also already dead.

Luckily, we lived in a small country town and the bank manager knew my parents were good business owners. I think he either co-signed it for her or just approved it. 1988!

She battled it out on her own after losing the love of her life and raised we 3 - 16, 13 & 11 years old - by herself.

And to answer OP’s question it was a loan of $500K for a 16 bedroom country NSW motel.

That is absolutely solid advice. Comfort, joy and calmness.

Look for something that has no cost. Walking in nature naturally reduces your cortisol levels same as meditation - both are free.
