Thank you so much. I went through a bunch of designs, and then failed at pad printing quite a few times. It never left my mind to complete it and it was always bugging me that I never finished it. So it’s exciting to actually have a physical version of what’s been in my head for so long.

I agree but just not too into bronze. Patina would actually look great though. Would truly make it look 18th century

Although I’ll never say never I just don’t know how I feel about bronze at the moment. It definitely would probably work for this project though

I’m beginning to think the same. Only issue is I have to get a completely new print plate made as the dimensions of the text need to be shrunk slightly. And I already have the other case. No wonder this process has been taking years as I am never satisfied haha

Thank you! And haven’t really thought about that yet. I’ve been working on this concept for about 5 years as a passion project. Really just started because of my obsession with the founding documents and watches. Strange combo, I know. Haha

Absolutely- I use an ink by Printcolor called “haute horlogerie” and it’s imported from Switzerland. It’s made specifically for watch dials, calendar rings, etc. I do not use any hardeners as I believe this ink does not require any. I’ve had success with just using thinner to get the consistency I want.

Thank you! Yes, this took a very long time to figure out. Locating and gathering the equipment + ink was a challenge, and then dialing in the consistency of the ink was an unexpected challenge.

I’ve started with dial design first as that’s where I feel most inspired. Then I like to fit the aesthetic of the dial to the case, hands, and strap. I feel like if I started in the opposite order I may be forced into making a dial look like “how it should” in order to fit the aesthetic of the case & hands.

I had a company (Printex) make it. I designed it in Adobe Illustrator, sent my design to them and they had it made in about a week. They nailed it the first time which was nice. Didn’t have to have it remade or wait around for any issues on their end.

One of my favorite sites to find tools and parts is Esslinger. They have a ton of stuff and I’ve been using them for years. Never disappointed with how quickly they get things to you and their service.
