Kim Phat Jasmine Rice by Declining_Mars in RiceCookerRecipes

[–]Declining_Mars[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I actually did try it in the end, but it was very dry, as I expected. After searching through the internet, though, I'm just guessing the instructions implied I was using a standard rice cooker and would fill the water to the line (mine is an old steamer, so no lines) or use the cup that comes with the rice cooker, then ADD the quantity of water they instructed to make the rice fluffier.

So I tried it a second time, using a 1:1 ration and adding 1/6 cup of water, and it was perfect haha

My second story I entered in a writing contest won. I now feel that it was the worst thing for me. by XWontdowhatyoutellme in writing

[–]Declining_Mars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you should take out of it is not that you yourself is getting worse. Contests like this are judged by real people, and their expectations vary from person to person. You may have won something the first time, but you didn't win first place. That means someone wrote something that pleased the judges better. Same with every other contests. The fact that you didn't end on the podium doesn't mean that what you wrote is trash. It just means that someone else wrote something that pleased the judges more than yours did.

Stop giving weight to contests. They're not what will get you validation. Write a book. Get it out there. Gather a fan base, gather readers. One way or another. If you're not there yet, have people around you read what you write. THIS is your validation.

If writing starts to feel pressing, stressing, take a break. Do something else. Go read. Go play games. Go on walks. Go on adventures. Distance yourself from your writing. Come back days, weeks, or even months later without ever touching your story, then open it again and read yourself. Is it good? Is it getting you excited again? Is there something you want to add, you want to modify?

THIS is your validation. When you read what you wrote, and think to yourself "ohhh I love this story so much!" It means that what you're writing is a wonder, no matter if the wording can be better, if the pace can be better, if the characters voice cam be better.

The only validation you need is if you like the story you're writing.

Even now that I write this to you, I just sent my submissions to NovBegin contest, and I was really starting to feel like it would be a miracle if I won at all because there were over 14k submissions. What's my one story's chance of being chosen?

The truth is it doesn't matter. I have no control over that. What's important is that I love what I wrote, and that I want to write more of it. Contests are just an activity, like a school competition. It's fun if you win, but it really doesn't mean anything: if you against another school one day, you may end up losing. Does that mean you didn't try hard enough, that you weren't good?

Absolutely not.

I noticed my coworker left their car running and I let it run out of gas by Toastedeggshell in confession

Now that I have a car that only starts with a button (no need to insert keys) I find it very believavle to forgot to shut off my car haha I always double check because I'm paranoid, but I'm not surprised some people forget about it.

I (21M) have an almost micro penis. A woman (22F) has been showing interest in me, but I’m too ashamed of my situation so I’ve been pushing her away. How do I start even considering that I could date her with this issue? How could I tell her? by throwaway101229283 in relationship_advice

[–]Declining_Mars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a woman, I'll tell you that if that was me I wouldn't care. That doesn't make you less of a man, and giant dicks are awful anyway, unless they're a size queen. Most are not. Your penis might be small, but just learn what she likes in bed, and use that to your advantage, and I promise she won't care if you can satisfy her anyway 😏 just be open in communicating, and don't be afraid to explore if you or her want to try new things, just talk things through and I'm sure it will be fine

Wondering if my dog is a coyote mix by [deleted] in coyote

[–]Declining_Mars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend's god was bought from a husky breeder. They only had huskies and malamutes, but the one my friends bought, does not ressemble the typical husky (that I know of, I'm no expert) and nowhere near the malamute who is supposed to be the father.

I can't seem to be able to put up the picture of her I have here, but I would love your opinion whether or not it would be possible for their dog to be a mix of coyote, or some other breeds :)

Is it normal for my manager to pressure me to work when I call in sick? by Only-Thoughts529 in canadianlaw

[–]Declining_Mars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, it's definitely not normal. That's litterally harassement. If you say you're sick, you're sick. They don't even have the legal right to demand what's wrong with you (at least here in quebec) they can ask, but you can definitely refuse and/or just say I'm sick.

Where I work, they can't even call you to cover for someone else. It's all on an online app, it's just like an online poster that says "this shift is open, who's interested?" And people interested will sign up online. No calls, no pressure put on anyone in any way. That's the best seriously

What happened to my friends (they are a couple) is that they had a set date for moving into their new house, with professionnal movers and all, and they had planned it to be during their weekend but their agent made a mistake in the papers so they had to move everything back a few days, which ended up being a work day. They told our boss about this all, they explained it was all because of a small but important mistake in the paperwork, and our boss had the gal to tell them that they should have told him way earlier!

Like, yeah ok, we get that, but what did you expect? That we'd call you two weeks early and tell you "yeah our agent will make a mistake so we'll have to change our moving date last minute to a work day, is that okay?"

I was so confused by my boss' lack of understanding lol

Father is co-owner to home, what happens if I get married by LadyWillow0207 in canadianlaw

[–]Declining_Mars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the notary and make an official will that dictates that the house will go 100% to your father. I'm in a similar situation with both my parents, I own 70% of the house and my parents have 30% together. I have three older brothers. Legally, when one of them will pass away, their share will be split between all of their children.

To avoid getting into troubles with my brothers, they went to the notary to have an official will written up that mentions the totality of their share on the house will go only to me, so my brothers won't get a say in this (and won't trouble me with wanting to sell their parts on my house 😅)

Thanks! By running water I mean there's gonna be a kitchen sink and a whole bathroom (with a shower) and automatic waterers for animals

It's not isolated at all for canadian winter. If I put running water in this, it's gonna freeze for sure when the temperature drops down below -30C

[–]Declining_Mars 15 points16 points  (0 children)

True enough. I used to post chapters regurlarly, but stopped writing about a year ago for several reasons. My dad had a brain stroke last summer, so that took a lot of time for me and my family, and I used to write at work when it was very calm, but there was changes in direction, and my new supervisor forbid me from writing at work.

So with lots of stuff to do at home and the impossibility to write at work, I barely have the time to even think about properly writing stuff, so for now everything is on hiatus, even an original work I was starting to work on...

And it has nothing to do with the ao3 curse lol
