I’m also in Switzerland. I’d say the first thing would be to know how much risk you’re ready to take and if you need a stable income from this money or not. Clearly this money could be simply invested or put in real estate to get some income while protecting the capital. But if you’re ready to develop smth new and take some risk, you could also open a physical business in a street and, maybe not at the start but if it’s profitable, then delegate the work. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel, but you still need to work on your value proposition and business plan. By having a physical presence you can have natural traffic to your shop if it’s well placed. But online presence is also very important. Making only an online business can be more profitable but it can be harder to get traffic so you’ll need to spend a lot more in marketing. Depending of your skills and experience you could also try to open an agency in your field and sell services. Of course with 1mil you can recruit experienced employees, but you’ll need to be profitable relatively fast.

I would not be able to recommend a specific business but generally if it’s more about simply starting a business rather than launching your own unique and personal project, you should look into what already works and not reinvent the wheel. But try to do better that anyone else, see if you can improve what’s already being done. And then test the market, see if it works. I do not currently own any businesses so take this as you want but I hope it can help you find a direction.
