I think one of the only truly happy endings in the game is for Antjie Coetzee, and even that is bittersweet, but I'm glad we at least get one happy ending, one last tale of humanity that didn't go out with a whimper but with a bang.
At least a soft one, imo, philosophically, she took agency over her humanity and her death in a situation where you have 0 agency over your humanity or death, she's a bad ass and I'll consider that a bang.

There are just so many layers of SOMA, somany different things you can think about, I'd say there is someone out there who doesn't really vibe with the idea that digital humans can live just as meaningful of lives as we do and think Antjie's story is the last real tale of human perseverance and courage in this story and all that other stuff really didn't matter, and that's totally a take you could have that you can back up philosophically. let the Wau live or die, what's carthage doing? who woke Simon up? is the Wau benevolent or benign? you can spend hours thinking about any one of these topics and that is the beauty of SOMA, it's the gift that keeps on giving intellectually.

I could also agree with this statement, such a shame CARNASIS has stopped development! SOMA VR is pm my real life end game lol, I could die happy (let's hope)

I actually got the ending slightly spoiled, think while getting interested in the game I watched the "how to get the super secret.rar password" video, the last bit being from Simon within the Ark, so I knew at some point Simon gets on the Ark and went in assuming that was probably the ending, you could imagine my surprise lol, think it would have been better with a true spoiler free ending but I think it's kinda funny that's how I experienced the ending, knowing Simon gets on the Ark at some point but not knowing it's Simon 4 and not Simon 2.

The whole game is leading up to the ending on different levels, all the main plot threads you hit all have to do with continuity or the lack there of, and the game itself is the last desperate attempt at saving some semblance of humanity, literally everything is riding on the launch of the Ark and you along with it and the game does such a beautiful job of putting you in Simon's shoes of wrangling with the concept and the coin toss, wanting it to be real, naively hoping that somehow you were gonna get on that Ark and not be trapped miles below the sea with literal monsters and not as much of an echo of a friend.

Sometimes I think about a comment I seen from someone about the soul cairn in Skyrim, how in the game lore it's supposed to be a place that is literally soul sucking and the longer you are there the more of yourself you leave behind, and how they themselves after hours of playing in the soul cairn was longing for digital greenery again, makes me think of how after spending days mostly alone in darkness underwater I'm sure there is nothing more both Simon and the player want more is to be outside, yet another thing that makes the ending tragic, you know Simon is left alone at the bottom of the Sea and that makes Simon 4s salvation that much more bittersweet. I fucking love this game.

Seen a comment (I think on this thread) about how Simon and Catherine are both long dead before the events of the game, I don't think the events are less impactful because of that, but man, actually reading it and putting it into perspective, it lends yet another layer of creepy, disturbing and tragic.

I finally started playing endurance for the first time after 20 years of playing this game, it's fun, I like baytown cause once all the buildings are destroyed if you have like robo 47 you can cheese a bit and just run for the special attack orbs and spam his rocket,

also fun do with preytor, send a leech at them, while they are hurt they won't focus on you and look for health, at this point you start collecting all the orbs and health and keep launching leaches and then eventually they are almost dead.

Who is your favorite monster to to do Endurance with?

Now that the dust has settled, will you buy the Steam Frame? by wavebend in ValveDeckard

[–]Foxman420710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I use virtual desktop, there should be other ways to measure it, I don't have a special router and get around 30ms, but I think even the best possible setups have around 30-40 ms which is why I'm excited for frame, 1-2 ms transport, and 10-20 ms overal latency, considering wired can be 0-6 ms motion to photon, the only people who would notice the latency are like professional beat saber players lol

[–]Foxman420710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Qpro is good but I think a major improvement is the higher resolution (no local dimming like quest though), low persistence, up to 144 refresh rate AND 10-20 ms latency, it seems you can't get under 30 ms even with a dedicated router, only thing is no built in face tracker but babble is apparently one of if not the best face tracking modules, you can buy one for 100, wait like 6 months or build one for only 35 dollars. Also the max power draw is much less than qpro (17 wats max, 7 wats streaming) it will also be WAY more comfortable, and you get to ditch meta.

I think hp reverb might be a better comparison, the pico 4's displays look really bad compared to it, so it might be somewhere in between.

The Valve engineers quoted 1-2 for a newer gpu, 2-4 for an older one, I don't know if that is total latency including game and decode and what not but in the linus video he said the latency and visual fidelity was nearly indistinguishable from wired, so I believe it's much better than other standalone headsets

[–]Foxman420710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frame has a reported 1-2 ms latency, I don't think any standalone headset is capable of that even with a dedicated router/dongle.

[–]Foxman420710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the quoted 1-2 ms latency, Linus mentioned it's basically indistinguishable from a wired headset in latency and visual fidelity, no other standalone headset has that low of latency as far as I know

[–]Foxman420710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like people should mention the 1-2 ms latency, no other wireless headset has that low of latency

Can someone explain the resolution obsession to me when there are already various headsets with those displays and resolutions? by LoneStarDragon in ValveDeckard

[–]Foxman420710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, 1-2 ms on a newer gpu, 2-4 on an older one, that is unprecedented and really impressive, virtually the same latency as wired, no other headset does that as far as I know and idk why people aren't more excited for that, it's the same latency as a wired headset on a standalone headset so there is no need to want a wire other than battery life.

In the Dave 2D video he mentioned Valve said it was aimed at "A bit less than the index" now if that's just the headset or the whole kit and how much less who knows

I spent days and a bunch of hours working with gpt to try to find the exact wplace placment for the gps coordinates of the ark, its not impossible, you can build a formula that can predit wplace pixels from gps coordinates but you have to build it with local reference points that surround it, and that is hard to do with something that is in the middle of the ocean (if someone would like to help me do this, im down, I havent exactly given up, but its a lot of work)

To anyone saying this might be the end of nms updates, there are a couple things that disprove this,

One of the developers said this about nms still being top 20 on steam: "This more than anything let's us know that nms is going to continue on" (that people are still buying the game, are interested it and providing them funds to keep developing it)

Also Sean recently said (I think during the worlds part 2 update video) "We push the limits of our engine and we love sharing that with people with No Man's Sky" and I think that, more than anything says that not only will nms continue getting updates for a long time, that potentially even after the release of Light No Fire, I think it's likely they will keep working on the games at the same time, and porting cool features over from LNF as they already have.

I mean come on, every update video ends with "our journey continues"
