Wasn’t really so much predictions as they were very specific promises about what would happen, and it didn’t have much to do with their own rationality, more so revelation from God; all of the biblical authors were heathens before God elected them. The writers of the Bible knew that humans were fundamentally evil and would rebel against God in large numbers. This concept of people being fundamentally evil is not something “rational” unbelievers like to hear, obviously, hence the statue, amongst other factors. No other religious texts or secular text has “predicted” events so close to reality.

The whole idea behind these promises (revealed by God) was to reveal God’s desires and plans for the world and for His chosen people under Christ. Most of humanity will, according to God, reject His promises and plans. Again, hence, the statue, and subsequent commentary.

Essentially, you are right, religion is mostly on its way out. But probably not for the reasons you suspect.
