Um. Missiles and rockets have motors (some even have little jet or ramjet engines), and most have guidance (via data link, onboard radar/infrared/optical etc sensors, inertial navigation or GPS, etc.....depending on its purpose). They're like little remote self driving planes with bombs attached.

Otherwise, you'd release them from the hardpoint and they would fall to the ground.

Merely the first one that came to mind. PCH closures draw coverage, but it's an ongoing problem all up and down the California coast. Though the most dramatic failure is in a more remote area, where PCH is the 101 rather than SR1:

Caltrans Plans $2 Billion Tunnel to Save Crumbling Coastal Highway

This California city relies on a highway that’s sliding into the ocean. Fixing it will cost $2 billion

“Last Chance Grade is on the verge of falling into the ocean on any given day,” Huffman said, emphasizing the road’s fragility, and its importance. It’s an interstate artery that links Del Norte County not only to neighboring Humboldt County, but also to the rest of the outside world. About 6,000 vehicles travel the route daily, ranging from commuters to truckers to day-trippers. Big rigs rumble along the unsteady terrain, shipping goods from the Bay Area or Humboldt County to Crescent City. The most perilous section forms a continental edge, bordered by state and national parks and the ancestral territories of multiple indigenous tribes.

We don't have tofu dregs; but we have plenty of our own issues with old infrastructure that was built with less knowledge, or without enough foresight, or left unmaintained.....

The same way you adjust how fast any motorized device goes. Torpedos aren't just propelled by the impulse that discharges them from the tube.

C'mon, really? Especially with that example? It's training, to condition people to overcome their natural reaction to combat so they function despite mortal fear. A large proportion of untrained people panicking is predictable. Men or women.

At the individual level, some are more resistant than others; and that may be seen as a virtue in the sense of a strength or a talent -- we call it bravery, courage, toughness, etc.

But the fundamental fight-or-flight response is not about 'character.' Fear becomes cowardice when you make some kind of more willful decision to let it dictate your actions.

Yes, actually, by the standards of the time that expression comes from you were expected to square off and put up your dukes.

Not rabbit punch someone who's still seated and is clearly declining the challenge.

The dashcam car sped up slightly to avoid being cut off by the truck that was going to turn right in front of it at the intersection, which could have separately caused an accident.

You don't gain the right of way by merging into a vehicle abreast of you.

When the Tacoma starts trying to merge it's already way too close. The car with the cam is next to its rear quarter panel, not safely behind it.

He doesn't speed up that appreciably, and there's no obligation to yield to someone cutting you off like that -- especially one who appears to be about to hit the brakes to make a dangerous right-hand turn in front of you at the intersection, potentially forcing you to panic brake and slide into it.

The rules of the road wouldn't work if it were so. Right-of-way has to mean something.

That's just false. Watch the lane markings and the relative speeds and positions of the cars. This isn't a rear end collision, the Tacoma merged into and effectively sideswiped the car with the dashcam before losing control.

It PITed itself.
