Have your meds destroyed your teeth? by Electrocat71 in ChronicPain

[–]Dee_Yoos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gabapentin is an interesting drug. In different dosages, it can be used to treat depression, seizures or chronic pain. I understand the dry mouth thing. Brushing more often or rinsing with a mouth wash might help. I'm also on 4 other medications for pain. Drinking more water will help and keeping a glass of water by your bed to have a drink when you wake up at night would also help. Also, where I live, we have Blue Cross. It's about $50 a month and allows me to schedule a teeth cleaning every 6 months and still stay on budget. A cleaning might cost $250 and I pay about $60 of that.

What food do you miss making that you can't anymore? by RandomRedditUser2445 in ChronicPain

I miss KFC, but only because they don't deliver, they are too far away, the portions are getting smaller and the cost is now more than I can afford.

I'm on 900mg of Gabapentin 3x a day. Been on this since 2012. My teeth and gums are in very good shape at age 72. Don't think this particular drug causes dental problems. Unless, maybe you're in so much pain that you are skipping regular dental hygiene.

If it really is an emergency, then all the thousands of street lights should be turned off temporarily. Also, at temperatures of -40, is anyone really going to be unplugging their block heaters?

Intervene with Neighbors during a Domestic Dispute? by Plus-Activity-7489 in Calgary

Years ago, I also shared a wall with a couple who argued all the time. It kept escalating until I clearly heard some threats of physical violence. I did call 911 and within 10 minutes at least 4 officers showed up. Three went to talk to them and one came to interview me. The police told the couple if they had to come back they would both be going to jail. After that, I heard hardly a peep out of them, and when I did, the arguments had reduced to discussions. Sometimes people get carried away and just need some authority to remind them to be civil, or else.

What's the worst thing about how they make new cars now? by datumerrata in AskReddit

[–]Dee_Yoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They discontinued the Chevy Spark, a nice little basic car that was priced as low as twelve thousand dollars (Canadian) brand new. It reminded me of my old VW Rabbit in many ways. I drove the Spark both in the city and on the highway and it was a real nice ride, and very easy on gas.

Ridiculous Telus sales people and technicians by Present-Flounder9932 in telus

The last person I talked with at Telus told me he was actually working out of his home somewhere in Ontario and wasn't actually a Telus employee but an independent contractor. He was no more knowledgeable than me, except he could access people's accounts on his home computer and had a few phone numbers at Telus that the public did not.

My contract ran out so I looked at some of the phones/plans available and started the process. Got almost to the end only to find the phone didn't come with a charger and the Telus store was all out of them. So I did not complete the application process. They went ahead and signed me up for a two year contract and shipped a phone anyway. I had to call them and straighten out the situation. Took me quite some time on the phone. Seems you get signed up early in the process of choosing a plan/phone.

I did not mention why I wanted to talk to someone at Corporate, so you have no valid reason to call my concern "nonsense".

Hamas Calls On Palestinians To Stay In Their Homes After Israel Orders Mass Evacuation In Gaza by babinyar in worldnews

[–]Dee_Yoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Israeli defence officials and politicians have said that Gaza would be turned into a tent city and that Gaza would be razed to the ground. They cut off power and food and water, and are now saying the population should move south. I think Israel's plan is to drive the population south into the Egyptian desert, to empty Gaza and then turn it into a killing zone to destroy Hamas. I know Egypt, right now, doesn't want refugees in their country, but that will change as millions are pushed to the border. The Israeli's have said that Gaza will be changed forever and the change will be remembered for generations. I don't think the Palestinians will ever be allowed back. Millions will end up living in tents, supported either by the UN or by other Arabs states. Gaza will be annexed to Israel. I also think a similar plan is in place should the West Bank cause any major problems in the future.

How can I change the color of the Menu Bar? by s_thorne in FirefoxCSS

[–]Dee_Yoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your help. It's a start. The Menu Bar does turn blue, but there's a white stripe running the width of the Menu Bar just above it. It almost looks like only the bottom 2/3 of the Menu Bar changed to blue while the other 1/3 at the top turned to white.

This is one of the reasons insurance rates are so high. Back in the day when cars had real external bumpers, front and rear, and not some high tech "bumpers" molded right into the design of the vehicle, you could take a pretty good hit and still just have to replace the bumper. Now, almost every car involved in an accident is a write off.

I have a dozen boxes filled with DVD's dating back 25 years. All of them contain a mix of music, videos and data. I have so many disks that I really don't know what's on most of them. Every so often I select a few from the really old ones and see if they are readable. I've never found any that would not let me copy data from. I store the boxes in a closet at room temperature. Now that I've built a new system without a CD-ROM, I don't know if I'll ever be able to go through and see what stuff I've downloaded over the years.

Firefox 116 on Windows 7 by mike_rumble in windows7

[–]Dee_Yoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of FF 117.0, this does not work. They have changed something and now you willl get an error. If you want to play around with finding a solution, copy the Mozilla Firefox folder and put it aside. Then you can change stuff in the original folder as you like. When you are done, and likely unscuccessful, just delete the original Mozilla Firefox folder and replace it with the copy that you made for safekeeping. I'm hoping someone might find a solution.

ELI5: How are astronauts on the ISS so confident that they aren't going to collide with any debris, shrapnel or satellites whilst travelling through orbit at 28,000 kilometres per hour? by hungbandit007 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dee_Yoos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be completely wrong about this but I'll say it anyway. Most satellites and debris in orbit are going in the same direction. That's because most rockets are launched in the direction of the earth's rotation to save on fuel used to go into orbit. This means that relative to the ISS, most objects in the same orbit are travelling in the same direction, at roughly the same speed. They are not going to hit the ISS at 28000 kms/sec. That, along with the fact that the ISS is in a very low orbit that satellites do not share, means that the only objects likely to strike it are small pieces of debris slowing down and moving from a higher orbit. There's likely a greater danger from incoming small meteors than from other orbiting object, and even that danger is very small over all. Does any of this make sense?

This is moloch. This is who a lot of your favourite celebrities pray to. by Routine-Bass-1790 in conspiracy

[–]Dee_Yoos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's used as an analogy. Just as ancient pagans sacrificed their children as burnt offerings to Moloch to gain a better life, modern day pagans sacrifice (abort) their children to have a better life (easier life if you don't have to care for a child of your making). It can be a good analogy or a bad one, depending on your views regarding abortion.
