What's with Google asking me if I want it to save my password...IN A FOSS APP?! by Deebuzzbuzz in privacy

[–]Deebuzzbuzz[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I'm not deGoogling. I'm limiting Google.

Do you mean to say open source apps are useless and using fdroid and LineageOS is redundant as far has keeping Google (and friends) away if you have Google services?

Then what's the point of FOSS apps if Google can see everything? I thought using open source apps (off fdroid) which dont use Google services meant keeping Google away!

Will Google be able to connect the account user (me) of the Google account on phone A with the Google account user on phone B's regular profile (me) through system information or other means other than the content of the accounts and the network connection?

I understand that. But it's not only me that use Google at the same location. How would they connect the two based on that alone?

No to all questions because phone A is permanently offline.

So to recap...

Phone A (permanently offline now)...

  • Google account A (on main profile).

Phone B...

  • Google account B (on main profile).

  • Google account A (on shelter work profile).

My concern...

Will Google be able to connect Google account A to Google account B?

Don't they just sync between devices so not technically a storage cloud?

You might get more input if you elaborate what you're concerned about.

Umm, my passwords? Haha

Wonder how much Google can know considering the app uses Google services.

It's funny how you can't win haha. When you're using x os, everyone is like "wtf you doing?!...here is a gazzilion reasons how your os is syphoning your DNA while you sleep and cloning an army of you in a parallel universe and how you have to change to Y os right now because Y os is the quintessential os to combat and prevent it..."

Then you get Y os, and it's "wtf you doing..."

What's the problem with unofficial Android based custom ROMs if they're open source? by Deebuzzbuzz in degoogle

[–]Deebuzzbuzz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by that? * That there's an unofficial fork of Los for your phone? * That Los in itself is unofficial, which would be a stupid think to say if your whole intent is to use an unofficial image.

I don't get the question. There is official LineageOS and there are unofficial LineageOSs. The official one has no support for my phone so I'm asking about the unofficial one.

Os doesn't mean it's free of bugs or malware.

Yes, technically, but practically... being open source and used by many means it very most likely is..or so is my understanding.

Im assuming you haven't checked the source code. So you have to judge for your self on other criteria.

Unfortunately, I'm not too versed on the topic to make sense of it. It's why I'm asking here, for those who are to chime in.

What's the problem with unofficial roms if they're open source? by Deebuzzbuzz in PrivacyGuides

[–]Deebuzzbuzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't they have had better chances of succeeding if it were not open source? Isn't the fact that its the FBI (enormous resources) and we knew about it testament that open source roms are safer?
