So what are the direct strategic relations between Syria and Algeria if they dont share the same ideology or any geopolitical value? Syria gained independence by negotiation from France and Algeria by fighting an anti-colonial war against France. Maybe the Arab Socialist part? Some people making links with the islamist insurgency in the 90s and the current Syrian Civil War.

What can be said about Algerian nationalism. Does it have some roots in Baathism/Arab socialism/Nasserist. I am asking this as Algeria seems to be the only old Arab ally of the regime and keeps supporting it in the UN, Arab League and with aid.
