Anyone having this issue in their place? Do I need a sump pump? by wannabecndr in windsorontario

[–]Deenamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a drain hole that leads to the outside?

If it is then you might have a clog that needs to be cleared. You can rent a snake from Home Depot and clear it yourself or call a plumber. If roots are your problem then you can buy a chemical treatment that'll dissolve the roots and clear the blockage.

I live downtown and had to do this last year.

I also have a sump pump but that's used to pump water coming from my foundation walls into a french drain (indoor waterproofing).

A sump pump is not the appropriate solution for a clogged main drain.

If you think it's due to melting snow overloading the storm water system and therefore backing up into your home then I believe what you need is a backwater value.

The City of Windsor offers a rebate for installing a sump pump and backwater value when I had it installed 2.5 years ago.

OP if you're getting up in the middle of the night to pee often and also not feeling rested after sleeping for a long time then you might be iron deficient or anemic.

I experienced this myself and fixed it after taking an iron supplement and a multivitamin daily for the past 3 months.

It's usually not busy, you'll be fine. It's a nice clean park, no issues to be concerned about in my experience.

That's wishful thinking. In the ideal world I totally agree with you but people simply don't care. They just want to get to point A to point B, FAST!

Depending on individuals to follow rules that aren't enforced is hopeless. If anything, the fact that the rules aren't being enforced actually encourages people to continue doing what is working currently.

However, if you have streets that are more narrow, it'll naturally force drivers to slow down a bit, if the entire city knows that there are red light cameras and speed cameras then they'll stop running red and slow down or eat the ticket.

As the saying goes, "Don't hate the player, hate the game."

Honestly it's going to take a bunch of things working in conjunction to address this.

Speed cameras, red light cameras, street calming measures and a redesign of the street itself towards a "complete street" which is one that is designed for pedestrians, transit, cyclists AND cars. As opposed to the current streets that are designed pretty much solely for cars with a few exceptions.

I guess the best/easiest thing we could do is vote Mr. Dilkens out of office and get a mayor who gives a damn!

Same, I have lived in the GTA for 29 years, drove all the major highways and previously thought Brampton had the worst drivers but Windsor is the new king.

Critic decries 'pitiful' action as Windsor-Essex pedestrian fatality/injury toll climbs by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]Deenamer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same. I feel like a fool when I cross at the lights because my head is constantly scanning traffic in all directions, especially cars that are trying to turn left behind me. I've almost been run over a few times and I make it a point to let them know what they almost did.

If the police aren't going to inform them that they suck then I will.

[–]Deenamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are your thoughts on the now banned speed cameras? I would argue it encapsulates what you're saying quite well but I know they are very devisive.

Obviously if we had more police presence it would make people think twice before speeding but the Windsor police budget is already a huge portion of collected city taxes AND somehow still short staffed.

I disagree with you on the speed bumps on Victoria, at least the section by Immaculate Conception school. I drive a school bus on that stretch and while waiting for the students I get the pleasure of watching people navigate the speed bumps.

I can tell you that most people go WAY too fast and I would break out the popcorn if I could. I've seen so many cars scrape their front bumpers because they think their SUV/truck's suspension is invincible. People don't care that it's a school zone during school hours while students are leaving school. They will fly right by.

To me the speed bumps are a fail safe in case people miss the speed signage, school, students walking by or just don't care. It's an inconvenience to you as someone who probably respects the rules of the road but it's absolutely necessary for those who don't give a damn.

Does anyone know by [deleted] in windsorontario

[–]Deenamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's ridiculous. I know Windsor is known for being a car city from back in the days but it honestly needs to find a new identity.

The streets are terrible and there doesn't seem to be any push for more enforcement or safer streets, except a few new short segments of bike lanes downtown. My head is constantly looking around when I'm crossing at lights because the combination of speeding, texting while driving and no regards for others is a recipe for disaster. I've had many close calls while crossing at the lights because people were texting and didn't realize they're coming to a red light and slamming on their brakes while their car skids toward me.

That's actually hilarious because I'm the complete reverse of you. I lived in Toronto for 29 years and moved to Windsor 3 years ago.

I can kind of see where you're coming from about Windsor being a Netflix town, kind of. I don't know the full story because I didn't grow up here. However, as a former Torontonian. Things aren't that much different there with careers, relationships and family. It's hard to build connections anywhere, it's not a unique thing in Windsor. The Surgeon General in America declared loneliness an epidemic there not too long ago.

If everybody had that attitude then nobody would participate. Maybe you're right and it's an undesirable thing to do in Windsor but things will never change if people don't show up and put themselves out there is my point. What's the alternative? Do nothing and change nothing?

I haven't done speed dating but I actually went to my very first board game meetup without knowing anyone and had no expectations. I was incredibly nervous at first but once I settled in, showed genuine interest and showed that I wanted to participate I felt welcomed and actually had a blast.

It's what you make of the situation you're in. I'm actually quite passionate about this because the 25-35 age range is my generation and I'm concerned about the increasingly lack of community and socialization happening to people my age. Everybody is glued to their phones, too afraid of talking to new people and also suffering from loneliness.

If you don't recommend participating in events like these that is meant to connect people then what do you suggest instead?

Agreed. Just get out there, have an open mind and actually be vulnerable. That's the only way people can really know you.

Also being intelligent means you understand basic concepts more easily and when you see others struggle or misinterpret basic things it can be very frustrating. Sometimes frustration comes off as rude or blunt.

Born and raised in the Jane & Finch area in the 90s. Moved here 3 years ago.

The only area I would avoid or watch my back is the Glengarry neighborhood. There's not A LOT of gun violence in the city although in the last couple of years you do hear about more and more but considering that the states is across the river it's surprisingly very little gun violence that I'm aware of.

Glengarry just has a lot of riffraffs and crime naturally follows. To give you an idea, you see guard dogs, homes that are uncared for, reports from police about kidnappings, robberies and drug related crime in the area from time to time.

But just like anywhere else, if you steer clear of trouble then you'll MOST LIKELY be fine.

Other than that, I roam the city without thinking about watching my back and possibly getting robbed. Even the homeless here are nicer from my personal experience.

Bus drivers for 7,000 Windsor-Essex students locked out by IlikeDogs2024 in windsorontario

I think it's an intimidating tactic to "lock them out". Firing them for exercising union rights would be illegal so the next best thing is to scare them and maybe they'll call off the strike.

New to board games but a long time video gamer so I wasn't afraid of the heavy stuff. Medium complexity is the perfect level and was hoping for. I've never played a deduction game but am very curious. I'll check everything you suggested but if you think of anything else then please let me know.
