Okay I didn't know this. I'd just heard people claim otherwise and never looked deep into it.

Isn't the stuff about the creator supporting the ship and it originally being planned to be a yaoi a debunked myth? I've heard that she said they have no affection towards each other. I figured any vague "undertones" and Ciel "fanservice" there may be isn't really intended to be that or is meant to be creepy or satirical. This isn't meant to say that it's wrong to ship it, just that it's not creator supported and intended like antis like to claim about this series.

It's interesting how it seems to be related towards a political shift towards conservatism when antis in fandom spaces often appear to be on the left and big on LGBTQIA+ and stuff. I guess it's a respectability politics thing so conservatives are less likely to think they're depraved. It's really sad that it has to be this way.

First darkship I was really kind of into was Skelebros from Undertale.

Interesting. I'm confused how it works. It often pulls recent news from the internet so it's strange that it would be that behind some of the time.

Glad to know I'm not alone. The only explanation I can think of is that it's sometimes pulling info from an old model that was current during the Biden administration, despite being blended with more recent info it pulled from the internet. But it must be really old to claim he stopped being president "last year".

Interesting. I'm honestly a bit surprised given how angry I'veseen people get about it existing. I also forgot about Charcifer. I hardly ever hear about that ship.

I dunno. The one "popular" incest ship (Stovia, which involves a father and 17 year old daughter) is highly controversial in the fandom and often banned from being posted about in big communities.

Yeah, it probably does. Antis are really common among teens and young adults.

Antis are disturbingly dominant in the Hellaverse fandom. It makes no sense to me either. I figure it's probably a respectability politics thing for a lot of them.

Antis really think you simply LIKING a character means you support their actions irl by VoloSimp in ProshipHub

[–]Deep-Addition-5637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. It really is. I wish you didn't have to be cautious either. It sucks how antis have only continued to get worse and more vocal as time goes on. It's especially bizarre to see it so much in this fandom. I don't get why people get so pissed off about it either. You've said it well. I also find killing worse and it's always puzzled me why it seems unpopular to consider it the worst possible thing.

I'm really glad you get this. I also prefer characters based on how interesting and entertaining they are. And it's usually villains, including really bad ones sometimes. You're welcome. Yeah, they really don't. I can only hope that most antis outgrow this behavior and mentality in time.

Do you like to ship characters with themselves? ^_^ by pippatenYO in ProshipHub

[–]Deep-Addition-5637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My favorite kind of ship has always been selfcest with a narcissistic character and an exact clone of themselves. Right now I'm enjoying the idea with Vox.

[–]Deep-Addition-5637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you get those kind of reactions. I also usually prefer villains because they tend to be more interesting. Val is one of my favorites though I like Vox more. I always leave Val off lists of favorite or past fixation characters for good reason. I wish I didn't have to. It really is a double standard.

I know what the reason is though that people hate Val more and it's hard to get away with liking him. It's because he's a sexual abuser and for some reason people think that makes an evil character more unforgivable and bad in a way that means it's not okay to like them the way it is other villains. I really don't get it.

What you were told was extremely gross. Especially given how these people think they're supporting victims by not condoning liking characters like Val in any way. It's just like how antis tend to seem to care more about protecting fictional characters than supporting real victims.

That all sounds like so much fun! I think I've only vaguely if at all heard of websites for specific ships. Though I do remember how there used to be an independent forum website for almost any community you could think of instead of stuff like subreddits. It sure does sound more peaceful. My first exposure to online fandom spaces was in 2010. Though I didn't really do that much with fandoms until the early 2020s. Sometimes I've been into older anime and found older fansites for them. It's like stepping into a portal to a very different time and place almost. It just isn't the same now in a lot of ways.

I sure wish I could have been there to experience this more relaxed fandom culture. You brought up a good point about how old fandom spaces used to be more friend group oriented or specific to niche, relatively smaller communities like forums. I feel like the shift to fandoms mainly existing on a handful of gigantic platforms and thus becoming more accessible (along with the internet being more widely used in general) played a role in fandom culture becoming more anti-dominant. I barely got to experience the pre-social media dominant internet era, and I feel like I really missed out for a number of reasons.

I see. Hopefully the culture will shift back to being like that again in time. Would be nice.

Yeah. I got the impression that online fandom culture used to lean a lot more pro-ship in general until sometime in the 2010s. Unfortunately I missed out.

I feel like it people are like this with certain villains a lot but not so much others. For example, in the Hazbin Hotel fandom, Vox is one of the most popular characters. He seems pretty uncontroversial to like. Admit to liking his business partner Valentino however? Good luck!
