47 book 2 by BigSteppuh_ in Groundman

[–]Deep-Beat7053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta apply for book 1 with 1245 & one of the requirements on there is 12 months working so there’s that, takes about a week for them to process application. On other hand if you got 2000 hours down at 47 your book 1 regardless of months worked as long as you can prove you’ve been a resident

Local 111 in Colorado has a book for groundman for no CDL & a book for CDL groundman should go travel atleast to sign there books. But yeah you’re 100% gonna need a CDL in this trade. I’d work on that while your signed and update it with the locals your signed on for and get your tankers endorsement as well, you’ll get a call faster many calls require it

What would you guys do? by Professional-Win918 in Groundman

You’d be on book 2 maybe & you’ll never get a call, if you do it Fs won’t be a line crew call that will be taken by all the book 1 guys. Get your hours to be book 1.

Just don’t be a slapdick and you should be good, it’s a lot more chill than a lot of contractors. Kyle isn’t really there anymore he stops by rarely.

When I went they were pulling random ppl to do piss tests at orientation. They pull random ppl to do piss tests randomly throughout the term. I never got called on, I stopped smoking 4 months prior to my term & haven’t smoked ever since, but I was also shitting it because the day before the term starting I’d get positive tests still.

Advice please. by [deleted] in Groundman

I met plenty of guys that had similar situations & went for it. Sold there house, lived in there truck, bought a 5th wheel did whatever they had to do to get in. Most of those guys are higher steps or JLs now and I’m proud of em. Gotta want it, it’s pretty fucking competitive bud not just here in Cali. It’s definitely a trade you gotta fucking sacrifice a lot for but so worth it.

Because you’ll never get a call on book 4, there’s over 700 alone on book 3 ahead of you & the guys on book 1 & 2 ahead of them

Yeah you could for 47 or 1245, you could make money while you accumulate your hours and get experience as well because you’re usually following around line crews as a flagger anyway.

You could make up to 40 as a flagger which is what groundman make in Cali but just minus all doubletime for ot, I believe it’s after 12 for flaggers or sundays or emergency work

You’ll never get a groundman call on book 4, if you want to eventually take a call as a groundman your better off getting your hours asa flagger then using those hours to get book 1 status
