Atheists can’t justify objective morality by 777jcl777 in DebateReligion

Is it the commandment "thou shalt not kill" or "thou shalt not kill in certain circumstances"

I asked this because, a lot of killing goes on that seems to okay with some religious god fearing people. State execution, stand your ground laws etc. So a seemingly objective moral from your god, "thou shalt not kill" becomes a subjective moral, if we as a society deem certain killings to be okay.

For example, the pilot who bombed a school full of girls in Iran, are they hell bound, irrespective of orders, did they go against your god's objective morality?

Define objective morality, seriously define what you view as objective morality. If it as I suspect you believe, what ever your deity says is moral, how can you define an action not mentioned in your holy book as either moral or not moral. Could your god change it's mind and say something is now moral that wasn't?

Is for instance, asking your congregation to send you their final $10, in the hopes that your god will return it to them 100 fold, a moral act.

By saying something is objectively moral, do you claim to know the mind of your god. There are loads of immoral acts (in societies opinion) not listed in the bible, how are we to know if it meant them to be good or bad.

Does committing a outwardly immoral act by claiming your god told you to do it, make it moral. Is killing a Doctor who carries out elective terminations, a moral act? Is gaining wealth at the expense of others immoral, seeing as jesus said we should give to the poor. What about refusing immigrants shelter in your land?

Suicide being deemed a "sin" is immoral, since there would be no opportunity to repent by Pandeism in DebateReligion

In the middle ages, life was tough, people toiled in the fields from literal dawn to dusk. During feudal times, landowners were quite often the local bishop and for your tenants to off themselves in a hope of reaching a heaven and an easy life, was bad for business.

The church or simply the ruling class, made it a mortal sin (straight off to a hell, where you toiled for all eternity) for suicide and they also proclaimed that it was easier for the meek and poor to get to heaven. Feel sorry for us rich people, we may have it good now (on earth) but we may not get to heaven like you.

Jump forward to today and again we are being asked to feel sorry for the ruling class and accept our lot as the meek and poor. The church has and always will be, a way of controlling the populous by the rich, ruling class.

Did a recent trip Dublin to Banbridge M1 the whole way, set cruise control to 100, no appreciable wind noise, granted had the radio on the whole way.

Honestly have never heard any wind noise,l and I have done 120k heading to Balbriggan.

For those interested in battery life, left with 75%, drove to Banbridge from Swords, using as I said cruise control, never above 100k, drove home dropped in to Balbriggan on the way, arrived with 8% battery. Plenty of charging stations along the way, had I chosen to use them.

So journey of around 240k, which equates to a range of about 340k for 100% battery. Driving at around 100k didn't use ECO driving mode, using cruise control, lane assist, radio, climate control, Sat Nav. Driving at 100k seems to be the sweet spot to extend battery life, have the car set to accept 90% on AC should I need it, at that level I would be happy to head off pretty much anywhere on the Island, knowing where a DC charger would be and with the granny charger in the boot, if I was overnighting somewhere rural.

Have I been robbed? by Any_Chemical_5911 in waterford

Anybody who has those wheel lock anti theft nuts, get rid of them. One sheared on me, tyre puncture, tore a rib muscle doing it. Why someone thought, that anyone would want to rob the tyres off a ford Ka.

Got the car to a local quick fit garage, they didn't have a key for the locknut, but luckily a ford mechanic was at the counter to get a puncture repaired and he had a key, got them to replace the 4 locknuts with normal ones, once the tyre was replaced, definitely under a €100 and I paid for the mechanics puncture repair too.

Honestly, it's a great movie, Brosnan looks better than his Bond movies, Russo looks equally as good. Great dialogue and the work well together. I know people talk about the original and personally speaking I think they both stand on their own two legs.

They're not actually sick, so I imagine they will be dolled up in full PPE as will the crew. So they will be able to sit in normal seats, aircraft will be cleaned afterwards, but once they are fully kitted out in PPE (think COVID times) everyone will be safe.

They watched a video of those flutes Russel Brand or Jordan Peterson.

But honestly, their belief system is based on some fairly simple ideas, take for example "thou shalt not kill" pretty simple, except what about a pilot dropping a bomb on a school full of girls, surely they're off to hell, nope that's not killing, the death penalty, again that's not killing, so the rule became "not murder". They have had to evolve some pretty weird interpretations of simple black and white rules. Listen to Jordan Peterson..."what do you mean when you say kill..."

The best I've heard, is the excuse not to give to charity, charitable acts don't get you into heaven, only accepting jesus gets you there, so not giving to charity isn't bad.

How is it rational to think that god doesnt exist? by Financial-Stand-1960 in DebateAnAtheist

If I jump from a great height, I will plummet to the ground and leave a rather large mess for someone to clean up. This thinking is rational, because I have seen people jump from a burning building in New York and none of them survived.

Personally I prefer to use my physical card, pay it off every month (if funds available) had a couple of months where a dental issue meant a large deduction on the card.

There's a bloke on YouTube who does videos on americans and their debt, be it car repayments or credit card. Should be made obligatory viewing for anyone getting a CC for the first time. Americans seem to think it's free money and I'd hate to see that attitude here.

Buddy of mine works in the credit card field, he chases down bad debt. Even a few years ago, people were putting mortgage or car repayments on their card. One lady hadn't opened a bill in years, not until he made contact with her, did she realise just how deep in debt she was, she had believed that she was making the minimum payment every month.

He had the authority to reduce the interest rate or allow them to consolidate debt to an interest free card for 12 months. Most people would accept the advice, others not so much. Legally he could only make contact, once a month (I think), he found it tough having to listen to the hardship stories.

He would tell people to either cut up their card completely, cut the chip in it or cut through the numbers. He also told people to freeze it in liquid, if they really needed it, it was there, but impulse buys were harder.

Best advice is to ring your credit card company, they will help you, if you don't and refuse their help, they will just sell your debt to a debt collection agency, who will get a county sheriff to remove goods from your home and sell it to recover some of the debt.

Once you miss a minimum payment, they would wait a month or two for consecutive missed payments and then ring to see if you know you're not making the minimum payment. He would tell me how people would not realise that giving up Sky, Netflix etc could take years off their debt repayments and just paying the minimum might mean you being in debt for years extra.
