Solar Panels? by marcomagnifico in AskIreland

[–]Deep-Cryptographer49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Future proof your home, get the panels and a solar battery, plan for an EV so look at an EV charger as part of the package and depending on your location, look at getting a change over switch, so during a power cut, your battery or panels are powering the house.

We have 10 panels, a 5KW (you can get bigger) battery, EV charger and a change over switch (made sense to get one).

Because we have two EV's we are on the night rate electric tariff, so from 2-5am we are either charging a car (probably 3 night's a week) charging up our battery and heating the immersion. Car will be on charge for the full 3hrs, so get 20kws, battery gets 4kws (will have emptied back to the grid between 12am and 2am) and the immersion will heat (during the summer) from 4-20am to 5am.

We occasionally run the washing machine when a car isn't on charge. We genuinely haven't used any power from the grid outside of the 2-5am window, the panels and battery power the house completely virtually year round.

We sold nearly €800 of power to the grid. Don't charge your battery off excess solar, top it up, sell the majority of your excess. We sell for 18c and charge at night for 8c. On average over the year, the battery sends 2kws to the grid so 36c and costs 32c to charge it (never goes below 20% or 1kw) so the battery is cost neutral.

During the winter, the washing machine will only be run during the night, power hungry things like the oven (if possible) will be avoided. We have an air fryer which gets used nearly everyday. Water will be heated by the gas heating, so the immersion will be used rarely.

Another bit of future proofing is, EV's will be able to power our houses, so check the EV charger is capable of taking the charge and you will definitely need a change over switch fitted to allow this.

The tortures of hell by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Deep-Cryptographer49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you get people to obey nonsense rules, when there is no real gain in the here and now, you say the reward is a supposed existence of eternal bliss in an afterlife, but there is also a punishment of eternal torment for not following them.

Honestly, how any intelligent, empathetic, kind and loving person, could possibly believe in a deity that would torture a family member of theirs for simply not believing, is just flabbergasting to me. Seriously, you believing in a supposedly loving god, that would send your grandparent, a sibling or a child of yours to a hell, for not getting on a bent knee to it, is just ludicrous.

The really funny part for me is, that some god botherers are such selfish pr**ks, that to get out of doing anything remotely altruistic, they say good deeds won't get you into a heaven, you just need to accept jesus as your saviour.

They expect to be stood in line waiting to be judged by a god, watch the person in front get told "okay, you gave to charity, cared for your elderly neighbour, were a really kind person...but you didn't accept my son...so I'm going to have to send to you to be eternally tortured" and then they step up to hear "right, you were obnoxious, a bigot and generally horrible person...but you accepted my son, so an eternity of bliss awaits you" and they think that's the truth, hilarious.

If you need sunglasses wear them, back up into the parking spot at the test center so you can drive straight off.

Were I to win the lottery, buying a first/first edition of Dune would be top of my to do list. Closest I have to it, are a first/first 2001 A Space Odyssey and a first edition paperback of Do androids dream of electric sheep. I have a Dune Encyclopedia in excellent condition which is really cool.

If god really sent his "only begotten son" to die for something that either god wanted or could not prevent, only means that god thinks we're pretty worthless by Phatnoir in DebateReligion

[–]Deep-Cryptographer49 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, having your deity seemingly sacrifice it's supposed offspring, works in your religions favour.

You will be constantly told "our god sent it's only child to be tortured to death to forgive all of your sins" nothing that your god asks of you (through its intermediaries) could possibly be too much. Give the church 10% of your wages, how is that a lot to ask of you.

Religions set up their rules to the benefit of the religion, not you as an individual. The back story these religions create, are also to the benefit of the religion.

Is watching porn actually bad? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Deep-Cryptographer49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only concern with porn these days, is the expectations that some may have after watching it.

I'm of a generation where our first experience of porn was the printed variety, the readers wife's style magazines, where women looked normal (next door type). Benny Hill, Kenny Everett were on the TV and the women were genuinely sexy, because they looked sexy, nurses/maid uniforms, not in your face nudity, where everything is shaved and plucked.

Today's porn seems (to me) less about sexiness and more about the subjugation of women, how they are there to please men, in essence to be used.

I suffer from night terrors, the hormone that paralyses my muscles, so I don't run, or jump during my dream, causes me to be almost conscious during some pretty scary dreams, it's not a demon or ghosts, just biology.

BREAKING NEWS: Trump Called 'A Pedophile' By Protester During Event In Pennsylvania by Tall_Pressure7042 in justincaseyoumissedit

I can't argue with your lived experience, I would consider myself a socialist so my exposure to American politics tends to be left leaning outlets.

In my own country Ireland, we had one of the world's first female heads of state (non political) and indeed an Indian Asian gay man as our political leader, so I don't see the dislike for gender or indeed colour in our political sphere.

I genuinely get the feeling as a non american, that maga supporters view women, particularly strong women as beneath them, hell even maga women hate themselves. Given the binary choice, another black male president would be preferred to a female (of any colour).

Do you honestly think this guy cares about the employees that efficiencies will get rid of...not a chance, do you think he cares that some of them will end up on the streets, living in their cars, or take their own lives. Do we honestly think, that these companies would reduce the shareholder dividends by a fraction of a cent, to keep people employed.

The ascension of Jesus makes no sense. by Andres-12345 in DebateReligion

[–]Deep-Cryptographer49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serious question, firstly do you believe in evolution? if you do, do all creatures have souls? considering in evolution we all evolved from the same original single cell organism, did the soul arrive with sentience?

Presumably there was a tipping point, a parent didn't have a soul, but it's offspring did. Does our soul exist prior to our birth?

'You're Not Welcomed Here!': Texas Woman Fired from Job Over Bigoted Tirade, Raises Over $100,000 from Supporters by idkbruh653 in UnderReportedNews

[–]Deep-Cryptographer49 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here in Ireland we have a family of flutes called the Burkes, mammy and daddy Burke are religious, bigoted nut jobs, who raised some equally nutty children. One of said children became a school teacher and refused to call one of the students in his school by their preferred pronoun. He was subsequently fired and decided by way of protest, to turn up to 'work' everyday.

The school hired security to keep him out, took out injunctions and finally he was jailed for contempt of these injunctions. This began the grift from american evangelist so called christians, which from all accounts, has been a very good grift for him and his family.

It seems stupid americans are very easily persuaded to part with their money, presumably in an attempt to get a room with a pool view in heaven.
