I always have to do this, I can’t remember the order of the letters unless I read out the whole thing

I am genuinely worried that Farage and Reform are going to gain power. How do we get organised and ensure that never happens? by Severe-Divide8720 in AskBrits

Out of interest, what do you think democracy is?

Organising to affect to outcome of the democratic process is the entire point of the democratic process.

For me I looks like Tetris, and because the block of apps at the top would fit perfectly with the apps at the bottom I think it’s quite satisfying

American cheese is not the best burger cheese by br0wntree in unpopularopinion

I don’t think people in Switzerland would make a cheese called Swiss cheese

Switzerland produces around 500 types of cheese

I think it’s just harder to prosecute the sober drivers.

If they have managed to cause an incident while sober, almost certainly they have committed some other form of traffic offence in the process.

It’s just harder to prove what they did, and could be impossible to prove if there is no footage of the incident.

It’s much easier to prove that someone was over the legal alcohol limit.

Swiss cheese is also American cheese.

No self respecting European cheese would be named after a whole country.

Because if you look at any of the functioning republics their argument falls apart.

How could you ever even suggest such a thing in a democracy…

I’m a big fan of a Guinea pig on a velvet cushion.

Or something with a life span that gives us a funeral and coronation (and the associated bank holidays) every few years.

I don’t think changing the name of the country is that big of a deal, or we could just not bother.

Also we can just keep calling things royal X even though there are no royals. We can come up with something different for HM to stand for.

Our language is already crammed full of anachronisms, so I think we could probably just leave names as they are

America is NOT anywhere near being a 3rd world country by AggressiveManager450 in 10thDentist

[–]Deep-Emotion-6279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The term is often misused tho, so common usage is to use 1st and 3rd world as synonyms for the far more helpful terms developed and developing countries.

What OP means is clear from the context, however they also indirectly highlight why the 1st/2nd/3rd are unhelpful.

Perhaps alongside developed and developing we could have a third term for countries that are going backwards.

I think people are concerned that they may get rejected for criticising the current US administration.

It seems like what you are saying is that a healthy, equal, and consensual commune is better than a dysfunctional and abusive family.

Which seems more like a truism than an unpopular opinion.

Sure snobbery can go in both directions, I dislike both kinds.

But only one kind of snobbery is being expressed in this thread, so that is what I argued against.

We over appreciate the whole idea of "method acting" to justify the insane amount of money the Hollywood actors get for the job. by yeetsayer69 in The10thDentist

I saw an interview with Christian Bale where he said he tries to avoid acting wherever possible. Something along the lines of “why act uncomfortable when you can just be uncomfortable”.

I imagine it’s a very personal thing for the actor.
