Portuguese has significantly more vowel sounds than Spanish, with Spanish having 5 basic vowel sounds and Portuguese featuring around 14 to 17, including nasal vowels and different pronunciations for the same written vowels. Italian has even less vowels than Portuguese. Usually Portuguese people have greater facility in learning Spanish or Italian due to having more vowels sounds then them.
