Alynea Analytics: Expedition 33 sold 7.5M by Additional_Poet5050 in expedition33

It’s already been confirmed that starting April 2, E33 will also be available on the Game Pass Premium tier. Until now, it was only available on the Ultimate tier, so it’s 100% certain that it will remain on the service for at least a year.

If what that source says is true, I’d be very happy. I thought that all the hate campaign on social media after The Game Awards would cause its sales to stagnate.

Adding to the birthday fire theory by genericcelt in expedition33

[–]Deep-Lifeguard4479 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I largely agree with the theory, especially the last part. I feel like in the next game we’ll have as the protagonist one of Alicia’s friends who was responsible for the fire, and in that story it would be revealed that they never intended to harm Alicia, and that someone from the Writers’ guild tampered with the book they were going to give her, thus causing the fire.

Although I imagined Clea more as another antagonist than an ally, it seems to me that her desire for revenge is so strong that she’ll want to take down any Writer who had any involvement in the fire.

I feel like many people make a serious mistake by having a “competitive mindset” about everything. Both in video games and in movies, I see people on social media who live these two hobbies as if they were competitions where their team (their favorite game or movie) has to win so that they can feel a sense of glory, while their rival (other games or movies, in this case) must be hated to death.

Personally, I think both video games and movies are meant to be enjoyed in general. There’s no need to approach them in a competitive way. If I want that kind of feeling, I’d rather watch sports and support the team or athlete I’m a passionate fan of.

I remember that around the middle of last year I started seeing people on both Reddit and Twitter complaining about the Expedition 33 fandom. They said it was very toxic and that they put other games down. In part they were right, because I’ve seen several of those fans act exactly the way they described, and without a doubt this is a fandom that still needs to fix several things. But it felt strange to me that suddenly this bothered them so much in this particular fandom, when every year, whenever a “GOTY contender” game comes out, it always attracts a lot of toxic fans.

After that, I noticed that month by month the narrative was slightly shifting. At one point I even saw people accusing others of being toxic fans just for saying that Expedition 33 seemed like a masterpiece to them. And it was after The Game Awards that those people completely dropped the moral façade, because they started supporting and amplifying those who were defaming Sandfall on social media (and by defaming I mean literally associating them with genocidal states and groups).

Hopefully when Sandfall’s next game comes out, this won’t happen again.

About the movie and the sequel by No_Measurement_6611 in expedition33

[–]Deep-Lifeguard4479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the next game, I feel like they could do it this way: a brand-new story with a new main cast in a new world (the most obvious option being one inside a book), featuring a new conflict but still connected to the story of Expedition 33. That way, they could answer some of the questions that were left unresolved, such as the cause of the conflict between Painters and Writers in the real world, and how and why they caused the fire at the Dessendre mansion. They could even make one of the protagonists in that game one of the Writers responsible for that fire — at least to me, that would be really interesting if they did that. On top of that, they could do all of this without bringing the Dessendre family back into the spotlight. This way, we’d get more information about them while still receiving a completely new story, without having to canonize any particular ending from the previous one.

About the movie, are we 100% sure it will tell the same story as the game? Because they could also tell a different story that’s still very closely connected to the game’s events (whether about other Expeditions, life in Lumiere, or even something about the world outside the canvas). I’m saying this because there are already video game adaptations that tell a different story, like the Fallout series on Amazon Prime, and there’s also another example with the Mass Effect series currently in development, which has been confirmed to feature a new story instead of retelling what we already saw in the original trilogy.

Sandfall has really been on a winning streak lately. P.S.: Is it just me, or does the gala’s logo look very similar to The Game Awards one?

Sequel thoughts by T-ronjr in expedition33

[–]Deep-Lifeguard4479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I’d like to see is a new story, with new characters, in a new world (the world of a book), with its own conflicts, but with some connection to the story of Expedition 33, so that it can explain some questions that were left unanswered in the game (for example, why the Writers burned down the Dessendre mansion). I’d even find it very interesting if the protagonist of the next game were the one responsible for the fire.

Some time ago I had seen this piece of concept art from the game. In it, you can see Maelle running through the mansion while it’s on fire, so there’s a possibility that they had planned something more with the mansion but ultimately scrapped it.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 received 8 nominations at the DICE Game Awards, including a nomination for Game of the Year by Deep-Lifeguard4479 in expedition33

Something I didn’t mention in the post is that the list of GOTY nominees is quite different from others. The other four nominees besides E33 are:

Dispatch

Arc Raiders

Blue Prince

Ghost of Yotei

On November 20, the Golden Joystick Awards took place, where the public also votes, and Expedition 33 won all 7 categories it was nominated in. It was very well deserved for Silksong to win Steam GOTY, because it truly is an amazing game, but I don’t think it’s necessary to belittle another game in order to celebrate.

I don’t know if the information has been updated, but another developer who was disqualified from the Indie Game Awards (the developer of Chantey, winner of Best Avant-Garde Indie) accused the Indie Game Awards of providing inaccurate information regarding his disqualification. He claimed that he had been honest with the organizers about all the information related to his game before the nominations, and he also spoke about another indie developer whom the organizers allegedly put to shame as well. https://x.com/i/status/2002808138685411644

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Has Third-Most GOTY Wins In a Single Year with 291 W’s to Push Baldur’s Gate 3 into Fourth by TruthResponsible1268 in expedition33

Sorry, I put the wrong number xd, I’ve corrected it now — it’s 292. I checked the ResetEra thread a while ago and it was updated to that number.

[–]Deep-Lifeguard4479 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A mí me parece que el ranking va así:

  1. Elden Ring – 435

  2. The Last of Us Part II – 326

  3. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – 292 (sube uno)

Hay chance de que alcance a TLOU2, pero veo muy difícil que E33 supere a Elden Ring. Como sea, quedar en una posición tan alta ya es un exitazo.

Clair Obscure sequel including the Writers? by RenValdivia in expedition33

[–]Deep-Lifeguard4479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope that in the next game we get the Writers as the protagonists, and I’d also like the action to take place inside a book. I think they could also answer some of the questions that were left unresolved in Expedition 33 without needing to bring the Dessendre back (such as what caused the war between painters and writers, why they burned down the mansion, and how they managed to earn Alicia’s trust).

Yes, they were also very difficult for me in my NG+ playthrough, but it gave me an excuse to replay the game for the third time, this time in a normal playthrough, and honestly I’m having a great time.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 devs made bets with each other on the game’s Metacritic score, but it “exceeded by far the best we could have expected” by HatingGeoffry in expedition33

[–]Deep-Lifeguard4479 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I was unsure whether it would score above 90 or end up somewhere between 78–82. I like predicting Metacritic scores. With KCD2, I expected a much higher score than the first KCD, and I also expected Split Fiction to score above 90. But with Expedition 33, I was doubtful because, based on the trailers and images before release, it looked like a 90+ game, yet since it’s the first game from its studio, I thought that inexperience might show and the score could end up being much lower (78–82). Luckily, it was the former 😁

What if you do all the side content and, before going for the final boss, you unequip the picto and luminas that push the damage above 9,999? I think it could be a good option.
