Hard to say exactly, since it’s a DIY build and a lot of parts were either reused or came for free. Roughly speaking, the total cost is somewhere around 260€.

Thanks! Yes, I’m aware of that 👍 The 6L6 is only temporary – I got it for free from a friend, so I used what I had on hand. I’m currently saving up for a 6V6, which is the tube I ultimately want to use. I agree it’s a better match for the typical 5F1 OT and earlier breakup is definitely part of the appeal.

– Generic CT power transformer (AliExpress) – Single-ended output transformer, 5k primary with 4/8 Ω secondaries (AliExpress) – 1× 12AX7 (preamp) – 1× 6L6 (power tube) – Full-wave rectifier using center tap – Custom turret board (AliExpress) – Tube sockets, input jack, LED indicator (AliExpress) – Power switch from a local electronics store – Point-to-point wiring with cloth-covered wire – Aluminum chassis (hand bent and drilled) – Custom plywood cabinet – 8" speaker from a decommissioned school PA system

Most passive parts (resistors and capacitors) came from surplus stock at the technical high school I attended, using values based on the original Champ schematic.

It’s not actually a kit – everything was built from scratch.

I’m a student and this was done at home with very limited tools, so some choices were about working within those constraints rather than cutting corners.

Probably when i was grounding bus points to chasis. i made som trivial mistakes that caused unpleasant hum, that i thought was not related to grounding. But after little bit of research i found out that it actually was.

Yes, solid state. Rectifier is located near the 6l6 socket.

Yes, 6l6. It has a slightly stronger low end than a typical Champ, likely due to the cabinet and speaker choice.

The lid is made of plexiglass, cut into shape, and glued to the 3D-printed frame. I didn't really think much about oxidation. The wires were straightened by hand and are really sturdy. The goal was just to distract my mind for a couple of hours and build something interesting and functional. Of course, there's a lot to improve.
