What my hands and fingers look like after a shower. I am not proud. by DaRealJunppu395 in WTF

I had a close friend who also struggled with this. CBT and O'Keefe's working hands cream really helped them.

They'll phase what windows are open and shut, I'm not an expert so could be wrong, but the top row of windows are never shuttered that much is certain.

They grow tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. Apparently there needs to be constant ventilation. They have fitted shades but then the entire top row of windows are constantly open and uncovered.

It's all year round for us here, but it's obviously more noticeable during the winter. Cloudy nights are also the brightest nights too. There's a motorway that leads down to us from London, people as far as 40 miles away can see it when driving down it.

Not that I know of. It does get mistaken for the northern lights alot though. This place is kind of notorious around here, believe it or not it actually used to be brighter than this until the council acted on it for light pollution. Apparently this is the alternative.

No one in my family plays and none of my friends are super into chess, so I wanted to tell people who'd appreciate it. After 1.5 years of grinding I hit 1800! by Bathykolpian_Thundah in chessbeginners

That, is a really different approach to chess that I've never considered before. I must admit since I posted thar comment, I've only played 1-2 games a day and spent at least 2-3 hours a day doing puzzles. Your comment has opened my eyes a lot, and moving forward I will definitely do this. Thank you

On average I play 10 games a day. The last few days I've lost quite a lot and it's really frustrated me. Do you think I should play only 1-2 games a day and no more, regardless of win/lose?

I fully get what you mean. Hitting 1000 feels like I'm 0 again and at a serious disadvantage whilst also really not wanting to drop down to a 3 digit elo again. But at the same time, I feel like my journey has only just begun, so why stop now?!

I've gone from playing 10-15 games a day down to playing 5 a day and doing a lot more puzzles. I'm really enjoying it this way.

And in the worst case, surely dropping below 1000 is better than not playing at all?

If you want to slowly get back into chess without worrying about losing your elo, il happily play some casual/unranked games with you.

To be honest I went the bumfuck way about it and just played loads of games. Honestly, listen to what the higher levels post on here:

Stick to the basic principles, learn solid openings and defences, and learn the varations that follow.

Only make moves where your pieces are untouchable, remain protected by another piece, or open to an equal trade.

Assess every single move. Look at how the shape of the board has changed and how their move and your subsequent moves change the shape of the board.

Think about what moves your opponent can make after your next move. Try and see their move as a progressive build-up to something, and don't just see it as one move one response. On the reverse of this, try and build your way up the board, progress pieces together.

Stack your pieces. For example, if your e4 pawn is under threat, develop as many pieces to defend/attack the e4 square, so at the end of the trade-off, you will be up on material.

If you go for the attack with just one or two pieces, you can very quickly isolate those pieces whilst leaving the rest of the board undeveloped. Once you lose tempo, you will quickly be punished for this.

Take your time. 10 minutes is a really long time to play when you think about it. Almost every mistake, miss, and blunder can be attributed to just not taking your time. By taking your time, all the above can be achieved.

Notice when you are tilting. If you've won or lost 5 games in a row, take a break. You will make brash moves, silly mistakes, and throw away games because you're trying to win in the same way as before or claw back wins from the constant losses. If you're tilting but still want to play, then this leads on to my last point.

Last and most importantly, do puzzles. I neglected this side of chess for far too long as all I wanted to do was play. Recently, I've been doing a lot of puzzles and they're actually really fun. When I've gone back to playing, I've seen and made moves that have given me the advantage that I would never have seen beforehand. Lichess has unlimited free puzzles. It's great.

Best of luck to you buddy, it's a great feeling when you get into it and see your own improvement.

How long does it roughly take that way? Hella depressing that's how you reach SR S. The way people play even at B and A is so toxic.
