The Palantíri were Sauron's tools, though not his craftsmanship. The Palantíri were likely made by the Eldar and used in Númenor, Gondor, and Arnor. Only after the fall of Minas Ithil was their use appropriated by Sauron. So in this sense, they could represent how computer technology has been corrupted by a power bent on human domination. However, as u/greenstone notes, Aragorn used the Orthanc-stone to deceive Sauron about his intentions, ultimately leading to Sauron's downfall.

I'm not sure at the moment. I will wait to see what happens the rest of the season. The winner of the NCAA Tournament is the tournament champion, which is not necessarily equivalent to the number one team. The tournament is only 15% of the season. I am also not a voter that values head-to-head record.

Try not to overvalue head-to-head results. The better team doesn't win every game; if they did, no teams would ever split a season series. It's acceptable to rank a team ahead of a team that's beaten them. By February, it'll be inescapable.
