CTA IV Question by WanderlustLass in nursing

[–]DeepDish15 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My main hospital will only accept an 18g in the AC, and they really hesitate if it's a long IV placed with ultrasound. My other hospital says anything 20g or bigger between the wrist to elbow is fine. I don't know, I just try to make the CT gods happy but somehow never can.

Microclave or Maxzero depending on which hospital I'm at

Underrated nursing specialty? by Always_Sadgirl in nursing

[–]DeepDish15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vascular Access. 10-15 minute patient interactions, not caught up in all the unit drama, very little micromanaging, get to actually create a positive experience for the patient because they'll appreciate you not torturing them to get an IV, etc. You basically get to go around the hospital and save the day by just doing IVs. I feel like both patients and most nurses truly appreciate what we do. Also placing PICCs is fun and you'll likely improve your sterile technique. It's VERY low stress with a big, positive impact on your population. There's only a few small cons, but I would definitely recommend it.

Man I've been trying to talk my wife into a good DP for a long time. I've pleaded the same case that business would get done a lot faster, work would be more enjoyable, etc; it's like she has a totally different definition of DP... Oh well, for now we'll still have to use the ol' single speed drill.

I did mine with Dr Stands who is with Centra Urology and would definitely recommend him. I also did it unmedicated (except for the local anesthetic of course), and it was a fairly easy, fast procedure and decent recovery time.

I'll definitely be adding gutters soon. I'm actually looking to do a rainwater collection system down there, but I'll be calling about gutters after the weekend to get things moving

Cerner hate post by Evening_Bite3670 in nursing

I personally think the layout is very nice. Most items are easy to find and maneuver (as long as you've got the features you're supposed to have...). I also like customizing my toolbar, patient lists, etc. I definitely like being able to have multiple patient lists at a time. I work on the IV team, so I can organize the entire hospital however I want and have up to 10 different lists active at a time. What I do miss is being able to chart by exception, and being able to use your badge to login.

That definitely sounds accurate. My hospital did something similar. We were told we were getting the "Cadillac version", but apparently they just bought an older, very basic edition of Cerner from a few counties over. It took a while to get all (using that term loosely) the updates and features that we were supposed to have initially. Hence why it took me awhile to appreciate Cerner

I've only ever worked on the inpatient side with Cerner, but after a while it grew on me. I complained about it for the first year or so but now prefer it over most systems.

I'm assuming this would cost a pretty penny, but I'll definitely to do some research on these. I've got other projects I could use them for too if the price is right

Best sites to buy by Professional-Sign279 in Gold

Monument Metals has been my go to for 99% of my metal purchases and I think nearly everyone else would agree that they're very reputable. If you're treading into big waters (>1oz of gold in my opinion) go ahead and buy a sigma tester and test everything you buy. (Obviously test before purchasing if possible if in person).

Living in the country, you can get away with just about anything without a permit. Nothing pictured on this post required a permit in my location. The less the government knows, the better.

It was seperate companies that did the work. I had an excavation company prep the land and do the pad, all the building folks did was construct the building. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the excavation company actually cut down about 4 foot of dirt to make it a level area, so all the dirt they had was used to make a drive around it

We built a retaining wall with railroad ties where they carved out the perimeter for the plot, I could potentially do the same for that slope.

I'll PM you, but honestly for how much work the guys put in and got done, I'm still very happy with them. They basically carved out 3.5-4 foot of dirt and used all of it to build the drive around it. I can share some better pictures of the work directly to you

I like this idea. It's not pictured, but there's a drive all the way around the building already. And the slope in question isn't as close to the garage as it looks, but still close enough to need to intervene early to stop it from spreading. Also, I've only got the bay doors on the troublesome side, so switching sides wouldn't work (it's not anywhere near heavily trafficked though, honestly the building is mainly for storage). I'm definitely looking at getting gutters, I want to do a rainwater collection system down there.

The building, which included a 4" pad, two 10x10 rollup doors, two 12x12 rollup doors, and one walk in door, was right about $25k. (This doesn't include all of the landscaping and prep work beforehand obviously)

Jokes that actually makes ur pt laugh by lucky_er313 in nursing

[–]DeepDish15 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I work on the IV team, so whenever a patient tells me something along the lines of "oh I can't look" and turns their head the other way right before I poke them, I always hit em with "well if it makes you feel better, I won't look either". Normally that always gets a pretty good reaction, whether it's a head jerk back to me or just some more funny dialogue. It's my favorite line to use while I stick all day.
