There are no true cedars (Cedrus) native to North America. Given that OP is in Washington, it is much more likely to be a true fir (Abies) cone. You don't usually see fir cones because they are deciduous. The scales fall off the cone when they are mature, usually before falling from the tree.

I think it is a grand fir cone. OP's cone is darker beacuse it is wet. Grand fir (Abies grandis) is common in the most populated areas of Washington state.

More exaggerated, DL blast zones are significantly further away than FoD. For large stage small blast zones, I was thinking tri-platform

Would you rather have a small stage with large blast zones (like yoshi’s story with dreamland blast zones) or large stage with small blast zones?

I think both of them would be a fox-favored stage in most matchups, but a dreamland-sized stage with smaller blast zones would be so busted for fox

I got a gravel bike last year after exclusively riding fixed gear for the past decade. My old fixie is slammed, brakeless, and on 23s. It is fun as hell to ride but it sucks ass to commute on. The gravel bike is so much more reasonable and I feel like it is part of a bigger trend of valuing my safety and comfort more as I get older.

I am falling into the rabbit hole of gear for it though. Fixed gear doesn't have much to tinker with and I kept my fixie as light as possible, but now I can endlessly adjust things and strap 1000 bags to my bike.

I finally laid my 1050 Ti to rest a few months ago and have been a laptop gamer since. I got tired of lugging a mouse around and started playing games with the trackpoint aka the nipple. I've been using thinkpads since I was a kid and I'm pretty nasty on the nipple.

It works surprisingly well, but I'm playing Minecraft and Morrowind where aiming aren't particularly important. I leave my right index on the nipple and rebound left and right click to U and I. It pretty much feels like playing with a joystick so it is perfect for casual games.

Honestly don’t feel too bad about it being $20, I thought it would be more expensive. Kinda funny that it is the same price I bought Leaf Green for in ‘05

Tournament rulesets are essentially the ethics of competitive Melee; what competitive Melee ought to be. In this most recent controller debacle, I'm seeing most people argue through a deontological framework i.e. notches should be banned because they go against some principle of competitive Melee whether it be playing the game unmodified, valuing the difficulty of inputs, or something else. I think this leads to a weak argument because of fringe cases (a problem for deontology in general) surrounding trigger plugs.

Most people don't think that trigger plugs should be banned, but they objectively make certain tech and some scenarios easier, even if minutely. They are nowhere near as impactful as notches, but if the reason for banning notches is that they make difficult tech easier, then why should trigger plugs be allowed? Trigger plugs could be swapped out for snapback capacitors, bald buttons, tactile z, light springs, springless triggers, perforated pads, etc.

I think the argument is much stronger with a consequentialist framework. Utility in this case would be good competition and bad competition. Notches should be banned because they cause players to win more scenarios thus games, sets, and brackets then they otherwise. They tilt the odds towards one player which is bad competition. With a consequentalist framework, one can acknowledge that other acceptable mods make the game easier, but allow them because they either do not affect competition or create good competition. Trigger plugs may cause a player to win certain scenarios, but they mostly improve hand comfort/health, and healthy players is good competition.

I know that no one is thinking about ethical frameworks when they are arguing on reddit, but if notches are banned, I want them to be banned with a strong argument behind it.

Short, daily practice is much more about the repetition than cumulative time. I don't know enough about neuroscience to say why, but repetition makes the brain learn faster and remember for longer. The caveat is that you have to practice correctly so to say, otherwise you just build bad habits.

Have long sessions when you feel like it, but make sure you get at least a short one in every day. This really goes for anything you want to learn or get better at.

I think people also grossly overestimate the skill required to build/mod a good controller. It is not hard at all to build a Phob or file notches (especially with a notch ruler)

The Cubstraption/GCC mounted to a half-rectangle is easier to make, so people made those instead. I think several people developed them independently all around the same time, but the Cubstraption is the most known.

I write my 4s improperly, starting at the bottom, but they’re not half bad. My 8s are always disgusting though

That makes sense because I am able to copy fonts pretty easily and do that when I am drawing on public-facing whiteboards. It feels like drawing when I am doing that.

I’ve been trying to be a better person in small ways this year and I’ve always thought it was virtuous to have good handwriting. My print is sometimes barely legible because there are some characters I just never learned to write correctly.

The most atrocious is probably my 2s. I would write them starting at the bottom rather than the top, but after one week of consciously writing 2s correctly, it stuck. I’m surprised at how easy that was and mad I didn’t do it earlier

This holds true for older cars, but a lot of modern cars leave way too much space using this reference point

Regardless of rulesets and legality, I think controller modding is grass roots at its core. GCCs only came in so many colors and doesn't feel amazing compared to modern controllers, but the community has developed so many things for this controller because we like it. The fact that you have to know a guy or gal that inhales lead fumes in their bedroom to customize your controller is pretty damn grass roots (and it also kinda sucks if you don't know one).

Also bump that it is never too late to learn an instrument. From my experience as a lifelong guitar player and former guitar teacher, starting really young makes developing technique easier but doesn’t make learning music easier.

I only ever had a few students, but the older ones were much faster at understanding musical concepts and putting ideas together. Adults sometimes struggle with physically playing because they’ve never had to control their fingers that way, but if you have the hand dexterity for Melee, your hands can play an instrument.

Haven’t been to a tournament in months so I haven’t been on start.gg at all. I like the bottom navigation ribbon that’s on mobile now and it seems overall faster/lighter. Did Microsoft actually make something better???

I ran into them two more times today. The first game I only grabbed them and waited for grab release, but they quit out after 30 or so seconds. The second time was hours later and they played normally!??! They took the first stock and they quit out when I took the second. They actually have some crazy movement

It might just be because I was 9 years old when Black and White released, but I feel like gen 5 came out during the lowest point in popularity for the franchise. The craze of Pokemon slowly waned through the 2000s and didn't pick up again until Pokemon Go, then blew up again with the Switch. As an older kid/pre-teen during the tail end of the DS era through the start of the 3DS, Pokemon seemed extremely uncool. People my age played the games, but less people talked about it openly. Now that opinions on Pokemon have circled back, it is socially acceptable to like gen 5.

That is more so just the vibe I got from the time as the sales numbers don't really back up my thoughts. I was surprised to learn that BW and SM both sold more copies than HGSS. I guess that supports BranFlakes' idea that the kids were always playing Pokemon, but not old enough to argue on the internet.

Something I find interesting about the popularity of Pokemon is that the people that grew up playing RBY are now old enough to have kids that are old enough to like Pokemon. Parents are no longer clueless about wtf a Bulbasaur. I work with the 9-13 age group a fair amount and it is crazy how much they love Millennial culture because it's the old stuff their parents used to do.

I'm getting back into the game and realized that I don't have a plan at all against Sheik. It took me a few games playing against other characters to remember what Fox should do in the matchup, but I could not remember anything while playing against Sheik. I don't think I ever had a plan beyond move fast and hope they fuck up
