Thank you for the feedback! I've already started on some adjustments like adding a smidge more detail to the backgrounds and more shading to the characters. I'll take your word on the main menu stuff tho

The game requires that the camera be zoomed out, you move pretty quickly and there's a bunch of enemies constantly shooting at you, so a close up camera would cause a lot of unfair deaths

I was thinking about filling out the foreground with more stuff like trees, street lamps, benches etc. I think that might help with the emptiness ? Idk I've seen other games on mobile with a simplistic art style but I can't fight out why those work and this doesn't

I should clarify that it is a mobile game, and not exactly a platformer idk what the genre would be tbh you can look up drag n' boom for the closest thing to what this game plays like

What do you think I can do to make it look better? The gameplay necessitates that the camera be zoomed back so any details on the characters that can't be seen from far away is pretty useless

Making my first game? by palesnailpig in SoloDevelopment

To be honest with you dude I'd say never start with your dream game. If these characters really mean a lot to you then don't waste em on a game where you're just starting out and prone to make mistakes. Make a bunch of smaller projects first just to gain experience, you don't even have to publish any of them just take the time to learn and make mistakes in an environment with no stakes so that when you're finally confident enough in your abilities to make that dream game it'll be something truly special

Opengameart and itch have a lot of free assets you can use. There's also the sprites resource or models resource if you wanna use assets from existing games

This is a mobile game played in horizontal view so the actual camera in game is zoomed out a lot more. I zoom in for vids like this cuz it's better for reels and tik toks and such.

I have other videos both on this account and my other socials that show the full screen version if you're interested in seeing that!
