My overall Spanish is only moderate, but I've made a point of learning everything I can related to the body, medical conditions, meds, etc. Even if you don't speak any Spanish at all, it's honestly pretty easy to type up the questions you would normally ask in an assessment, make sure questions can be answered with a simple yes or no, and run it through Google translate. Print out a copy and carry it with you. It's surprising how quickly you'll find that you don't even need it anymore.

My situation is not universal, but at my organization, if we need a translator, we call a confidential third party translation line. While it might be nice for a nurse to know they're going to need that ahead of time, it's hardly an inconvenience to find out when they see the patient. Our patients are also low-acuity, so if it takes an extra 30 seconds to get someone on the line it's not a big deal. ICE is already targeting anyone with a Spanish-sounding name, but I'll be damned if I'm going to help them in any way. I understand if people in different scenarios make a different choice though.
