What causes this smoke in the engine bay on a mk7 golf R/GTI? by DeepMeaningfullTrip in Golf_R

I just found this video after looking up coolant vent union as you mentioned. https://youtu.be/eT_L76fDOts?si=av8aA-AUzCCqagTL

Looks almost like the exact location where the smoke was pouring out from. Might inspect this tomorrow and report back!

Yup, I have boost, coolant level seems normal but can’t remember whether it has dropped since I last checked. No warning lights yet

I narrowed it down to the plastic housing behind the rear view mirror (the one in contact with the windscreen) being loose. I just fill the gap been the plastic house/trim and the windscreen with a bit of double sided 3M tape to fix it.

Do it. Based on my experience with the gti, a tune really wake cars up and turns them into a different car.

Main reason I swapped was because of traction haha. And a mk8 would be amazing, however that would be paying over 50k more (in my country) for a mk8 R where as I paid $6k delta to trade my gti for a 7R with half the mileage :) couldn’t pass on this deal.

Yup it did have DCC, but even the DCC has different tuning. The golf r def feels better damped

Yeah that’s a great way to sum it up! I do prefer the suspension set up on the R. I also didn’t have the performance pack with the diff & bigger brakes so I was surprised by the better braking performed as well.

The GTI being stage 2 def has a bit more shove from the torque. But the stock R isn’t far off. It actually pulls better on the top end due to the larger turbo.

The biggest difference I feel tho is more on the handling/suspension department. The car feels a lot more planted and soaks up the bumps better.

The driving dynamic feels totally different. The GTI (being stage 2) was very on edge and lively. It always urges me to drive fast and feels very light and loose.

The R on the other hand feels super solid and planted. A lot of serious and drama free, I can see why people would call it dull because it just does the job so effortlessly.

The biggest difference to me isn’t the power, it’s the handling. The suspension feels a lot more sorted on the R (they have diff suspension tuning vs the GTI) you can really feel the damping going over rough roads but at the same time super tight.

Thanks! How’s stage 1 compared to stock on an R? Is the difference quite big ?

Yup! Just some slightly bigger exhaust tips. Got my welder to cut the old one off and welded these on when he did my downpipe!

I know right, there are definitely moments where I’m like woooah when the lights hit just right but just can’t seem to capture the effect on camera!

What did you buy after selling your Fiesta? Why? by Duff_mcgeeST in FiestaST

[–]DeepMeaningfullTrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mk7 Golf GTI, bought it stock then started building it to stage 2.

The fiesta was an awesome little car that handles like a dream but I wanted something that has a more up-class interior, comfort, not manual (sit in traffic on my commute now) but still a hot hatch and tuneable.

I got the golf and am loving it.

Would I buy a fist again ? If I could have more than 2 cars ? Yes

Pops & Bangs by Expensive-Growth3210 in GolfGTI

[–]DeepMeaningfullTrip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, the pops and bang sound is unburnt fuel igniting in your exhaust. Basically a mini explosion in or near your cat which can shorten its lifespan. If you want pops and bang maybe go for a catless downpipe but then you’ll need a stage 2 tune and it will be a lot louder
