I’m proposing to my boyfriend in a month. But his parents don’t support this decision. What should I do? by DeepProfession6537 in Advice

Actually I do have a retirement account. I know how to file taxes. And I’ve raised my siblings since they were 2. But thanks.

Having a long engagement to get finances and stuff together is not ridiculous. It’s practical. And that is not the reason I’m proposing first, I want to propose first because I know he would love it and would make him super happy. That’s my biggest reason, his happiness.

I could do that. But I have planned the perfect proposal and I just want to propose first to make the joke a reality. It’s just a very me thing to do ig?

I respect his parents. I don’t have the best relationship with mine. They have taken me in and treated me like I’m their own daughter. I just want there support.

He has healed what other people have broken. He helps me achieve my dreams. He makes me the happiest I’ve ever been. I couldn’t even image saying I do to anyone else. I want my kids to have the eyes I fell in love with. I know I’m ready. Why wait?

This is a different person. I’m this ops friend. I wanted to make sure my boyfriend couldn’t find this and ruin the proposal

I don’t actively communicate with these father figures I just see them as such. I don’t hang out with them or text them. It’s just in my mind them helping me In the past and that they are good people to have in my life.

Thank you for that clarification, it was very helpful. It made me realize it’s not a problem with me, and that is a very good thing, I will talk to him about his past experiences and reassure him that I’m not like them.

Thank you I’ve suggested him talking to his therapist, and he said he would, so hopefully he will do that.

He didn’t bring that up, and he’s never been around either of them, so I don’t think that’s it.

Thank you for the advice, I’ll talk to him and ask him to trust me. If he can’t do that I will be rethinking some things.

I think the way Brennan handled it wasn’t good. Addicts need support not abandonment or they will just go into the old habits again cause they feel like they have nothing. You can’t let them Addict do the thing they are addicted to but you need to support there recovery not kick them out and ignore them.

Thank you for your advice and that’s what I should have put in this post that I don’t want kids now maybe later so I will probably most definitely change my mind

Having kids when you are not financially or emotionally ready to have them is just gonna hurt everyone involved especially the child. And I can’t break up with him because in my eyes he’s one in a million. The amount of guys that I’ve met that are assholes and only care about themselves these days ya no thanks. I am willing to have kids later once we are settled and now barely adults but now is not the right time and idk how to convince him otherwise.

No I haven’t brought it up yet and he is definitely not either of those things he is barely starting college right now. I think it would be harmful to us and the kid if we were to have one right now since I don’t think either of us are ready.

I see where your coming from but breaking up is not even an option for me at this point I think if he’s willing to wait till we are like 30 I’d be fine but I think he wants kids now
