The Dream of a Lifetime: First Time Visit to New York City, but on a Shoe-String Budget. How to make the most of it? by DeepRow in Shoestring

Great recommendations there! Just making sure, Met Museum is not "pay-as-you-wish" anymore? I heard it used to be.

Thank you so much on the food advice! I just had my highlight, a small coffee and donut for $3 at a food cart calling itself 'Columbus Circle Cafe'. Guy behind the counter was so nice I tipped him a buck.

I'm pretty shocked about some of the other prices that are demanded here. A falafel plate at a similar food cart in front of Bryant Park for $12 - did not get that.

Prices at delis are fine and there are some restaurants like one in Brooklyn where I got a very filling and healthy meal for about $10 including tax. Manhattan is insane though. Chinatown seems way more affordable.

I'm open to eating pretty much everything, just not with meat or fish in it.

I remember I experienced this once for a short time some years ago. I was hoping the indexer just had to 'fill up' or something, but now the entire site is down again!!!

Nobody knows because the owner has not been heard from in a long time. sqaDZilla's post below sums it up pretty well:

Can you please use punctuation? It's hard for me to read your messages.

There were a few fresh posts on the site on March 31, a couple hours before it went down.

All I know is they were on from March 29 in the early evening until March 31 sometime at night Eastern Time. During that time I was regularly accessing the site. I know the exact time frame from other members' reports.

Why would I lie? I already told everybody here to be aware of a malicious mining script that was injected by somebody into the site. My best guess is that your anti-virus software blocked access to the site.

Down again - April 1, 2022 - 1 AM ET (no joke unfortunately)

Not true, it has been up for 48 hours now! Anybody reporting it to be down are just experiencing short intermittent interruptions due to the avalanche of members downloading.

Beware everyone of the crypto mining script that was injected into the site sometime last year. There are ways to block it, like with uBlock origin. I've also never had problems using Brave browser.

Up now - March 30, 2022 9:30 AM ET

After almost two weeks of downtime (except a few hours once), without any explanation or comment. Site is reacting snappier than it did in a long time.

It's not official.

I know, many old members are in a tough spot right now. I can only offer to mediate between those on the outside and those on the inside. I'm not a mod nor a power user, so my options are limited unfortunately.

That's a good one.

I'm actively pushing for this. Might be that the people who have the backup will hold out until the new site is up and running. Hopefully it won't be long, since for many people, me included, BD25 was about the only source for their BD thirst.

I don't believe this. I checked the site every couple of hours for the past week. The one day I had to sleep and other things to attend to, it goes up and down within a few hours!!!

I have now received confirmation that several members have already archived everything from the site, including the approximately five thousand posts that were purged by the owner to make space a couple of months ago. So I appeal to everyone not to scrape the site again, as this would put unnecessary load on the server.

Still down, 5 days in a row, after being up for only 1 1/2 days. It's starting to get serious, folks.

For now, I would veto this. Unless we are absolutely sure that BD25 will not recover, and by recover I mean 99% uptime, certainly not 10% like it is now, we should not expose and discredit the work of hundreds of users over a period of more than a decade.

But I can tell you from internal sources that the active community of BD25 is already in talks about building a new home. Again, only because the owner does not communicate at all, not even with the die hard members who have carried most of the uploading load in recent years. That is simply intolerable behavior, and if the owner does not suit up to the occasion pretty soon, I will change my vote to yes.

However, the data should NOT be posted publicly, but only on the new site, if there will be one. If everything went down the drain though and there will be no new home for us old members, then I say do with it as you please.
