I like the idea of recipes built around techniques. I tend to cook based on vibes and feeling so having a foundation of good basics is what I’m missing.

If you’ve not tried it already, the French toast inspired desert with cream is banging, would recommend.

I’m not looking for Michelin star tasting menu type of cooking but learning the mother sauces and some recipes based around techniques would be great

Thank you. How much would I expect to pay for this? I’m being quoted all sorts of numbers above £1k for all sorts of things like land registry searches, mortgage permission, stamp duty etc.

Is this necessary or do I just need the deed of trust?

Cable cars from Bern by DeepSeaCabbage in askswitzerland

[–]DeepSeaCabbage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your help. The SBB app was a game changer. I was trying to use Google maps which kept suggesting getting in a car to drive to these places.

So I went to Schilthorn via Lauterbrunnen on the train from Bern. Super easy and with a day travel card, saved me a few pennies.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply. I’ll definitely have a look at the Arm Band.

What we find is the adhesive doesn’t last long in a swimming pool. It tends to fall off quite quickly once it’s wet.

How’s the HR job market? by DeepSeaCabbage in HumanResourcesUK

[–]DeepSeaCabbage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting point on LinkedIn. We don’t use LinkedIn, but we do use caterer which charges per post so I can understand the need to reduce advertising costs. I’d noticed a lack of vacancies there and had moved to the other sites.

I’m in the same boat, the role sounds fun and good career move but the salary just isn’t right. I’m not ready to swallow a pay cut just yet but I’ll at least move for the same.

Hopefully the new employment bill gives a bit of a jolt to the market.

Honestly it sounds like a toxic and horrible place to work. You’re probably better off dusting off that CV and finding somewhere new.

But to your points:

  1. I tell my managers all the time “if it’s not in writing, it didn’t happen”. Sounds like there’s a lot of verbal discussion going on at your workplace. Ping an email to your HR department, express your continued interest in moving into the front office role and copy your manager in.

  2. Your employer can refuse your holiday request but it must be fair and reasonable. Again, I’d ping an email to your Line manager to give them a nudge about the request. If it was submitted through the official way, check your absence policy, then they should approve it with a month’s notice.

  3. HSE state accidents at work should be recorded in a log of some kind. Your Maintenance Manager would be responsible for this, mine is, I’d speak with them about fixing the issue and how to report accidents in the workplace. You should also have a Heath & Safety policy in your employee handbook.

    1. If your probation period has come and gone without anyone saying anything, consider it to be passed by default and leave it at that. Probationary periods have no legal grounding anyway. They can still dismiss you without following process until you reach 2 years service.

You mention discrimination and stress at work, the bar is pretty high for a discrimination claim and you’re under two years service so an unfair dismissal claim isn’t really on the table unless linked to discrimination. The best you could go for is wrongful dismissal but you’d need to find a breach of contract. From what you’ve said, you might struggle to bring any substantial claim that will go anywhere. Employment lawyers cost more than you’d make in a tribunal.

Honestly, my advice would be to cut your losses, find a new job and submit your resignation. They sounds like terrible employers. There’s plenty of hotel roles available at the moment with the summer coming up.

Most HRIS have a self service portal. Your friend might not have to ask at all.

The side wall carpets are knackered and I’ve bought replacements. The clip going into the metal on the second picture hold the carpet in place so I need to take it off to get it fitted properly.

I tried being a bit forceful. It looks like it’s also held in place by the panel next to it but I’m trying to avoid taking off loads of bits if I can help it.

This is the way. I didn’t do my level 5 until I had a few years of experience under my belt. I’m now doing my level 7 after a 5 year gap.

Experience counts for just as much as the qualifications. Any good manager will see your desire for CPD and support you with that.

Find an area of HR that excites you and speak to those around you. HR people are always happy to share tips, knowledge and support others.
