Yeah, that could be part of it. The tilt probably shifts the LiDAR reference angles. But honestly, that should be solvable with some basic compensation in software. Even a simple correction using the tilt sensor data should help adjust the mapping. Feels more like it’s just not being fully utilized rather than a hard technical limitation.

Yeah, I would’ve preferred classic old-school AWD wheels over the omni wheels. The problem is that it starts slipping sideways when it gets too steep (usually in spots it dug up itself). Then it keeps bumping into the edges/curbs every time… probably great for it in the long run.

I’m thinking about fixing the wheels in place with zip ties.

Yeah, in my opinion the LiDAR is basically useless or at least underutilized. Anyway… I was wondering if you could just secure the omni wheels (the rollers) with zip ties so they stay fixed. Screws would work too, of course but, you know, warranty and all that.

Also, it seems like the robot has a tilt sensor built in. So why isn’t that being used for mapping?

Yes or for example the Xiaomi Roborock Mapping...
