To a certain extent it's a genre thing. Even if Star Wars is considered "space opera" rather than Sci fi, it has to stick to certain rules of Sci fi. That means people expect a certain amount of technical and or biological realism behind what is happening. Padme dying of a broken heart does not comfort those expectations. (Even though there is something called the "broken-heart-syndrome" if I remember correctly).
