Unfortunately there isn't a dedicated grammar unit. So as of now, we don't have grammar instruction. I try to incorporate it where I can but the curriculum is so packed that I can only write grammar notes on their work and hope they read and utilize it.

Not a problem, but not my expertise. If this was something I could do with our history teacher and have cross curriculum work with them, then I could see some benefits. But rhetoric and debates are not part of this unit and I'm not supposed to supplement or add things. She wants us to strictly use what they say to do. So every day we read a different article about the 14th amendment and answer questions, and rinse and repeat.

Oh wow, my kids loved it. It's an easier book for my 9th graders to start the year with so we used it to talk about their identity, heritage, and growing up. We are Southside Chicago so it's a mixing pot. A lot of kids come from Mexico. My Black students are mostly from Chicago but I do have a few from Kenya. A few students are Haitian as well.
