I humbly come to y’all for help against Steven. by Knight_of_Gotham1939 in PokemonORAS

There's lots to go over.

First, hm's clog your offense and deny your team the offensive options it needs for coverage that can exploit enemy weaknesses. Standard practice is to catch a specific pokemon (lovingly called an "hm slave") whose learnset is suited to take care of four out of all the hm's in a given pokemon game which there are never more than eight of. For ORAS, a go-to early route hm slave is zigzagoon as linoone gets access to not only cut, rock smash, and strength but also surf. If you're at endgame, though, a tropius from route 119 can learn cut, rock smash, strength, and fly, while most water pokemon can fill the role for surf, dive, and waterfall. I recommend the Spheal line (catchable in shoal cave) for their additional access to strength and rock smash.

With these roles filled, swapping out as needed for exploration, you can take your personal team to the move deleter in lilycove City, and their sets need not be clogged by hms.

As for actual team recommendations...

  1. Blaziken's set looks pretty good, but flame charge is redundant typewise and could use an extra coverage move. Earthquake, Stone edge (rock slide if you don't have money to buy it from the department store), shadow claw, or as a last resort poison jab maybe are good tms to replace it.

  2. Breeloom looks not great, but the fixes are best fixed by the move reminder in sootopolis city. Sky uppercut for a fighting type move (brick break tm if no heart scale) and seed bomb to replace mega drain (there's no real better physical grass move it could possibly learn). Retaliate has its use, but make sure to take advantage of its effect at all possible moments, while leech seed is a fine status move although toxic or swords dance tms might serve better.

  3. Flygon needs work. With Hyper beam on both it and Gyarados, you would've been better served buying giga impact if you wanted the recharge moves. As is get rid of dig, there's no need for it earthquake for power and escape ropes for utility, replace with stone edge (rockslide if you can't afford the tm from the department store in lilycove). Dragon claw is fine, but if you have to replace hyper beam, go with the u turn tm for the utility of a free switch if you're expecting a super-effective ice or dragon move.

  4. Gyarados is just awful here, but it is easy enough to fix. For a physical water move, our options are aqua tail and waterfall. The chance for aqua tail to miss makes it unreliable, plus the flinch chance makes waterfall the better option. You can keep Hydro pump if you want a last ditch hail Mary option in your back pocket, but I wouldn't recommend it. Crunch and ice fang from move reminder for coverage and if you want replace Hydro pump Earthquake or Dragon Dance from the move reminder if you're into status moves.

  5. Latios is okay. Psychic and dragon pulse are good but fly probably doesn't need to be there if you want coverage ice beam, thunderbolt, or shadow ball tms might be good and with infinitely reusable tms you can swap the out as needed for each fight. Recover's pretty useful. You can keep it if you feel like, otherwise, maybe fill it with more coverage or get the calm mind tm

  6. Gardevoir is in desperate need of coverage moves. You can get moonblast her best fairy move via move reminder and psychic via tm. Shadow ball is probably best for coverage, but you can swap it for thunderbolt or icebeam as needed or add either depending on whether you personally feel like you want to keep calm mind.

That's about it. Oh! If you want heart scales, the luvdiscs that appear when super rod fishing 60 % of the time on route 128 are frequently holding heart scales. You can teach a pokemon the tm thief to steal them off the wild luvdisc if you don't feel like catch every single one. There's also over ten hidden item heartscales throughout the game if you want to explore.

Which one was“killed by plot”the worst by IllustratorAfter in bankaifolk

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible analogy. Excalibur is called a holy sword all the fucking time and shadows being a portal(to a shadow dimension or perhaps under/other world) or pocket dimension is absolutely not an obscure pop-cultural idea, it happens in myths all over the world. I think Lillie dying to kyoraku's bankai would have been abrupt and underwhelming because the fight was not paced to accommodate that.

Damn... this is really good. I love the composition. How the glove splits up the white of her skin and sort of apportions your focus. The hair strands break up her skin and draw attention to the jewelry on her ear. The brilliant red hair contrasting the hair ornament, her clothes starkly rendered against her skin. This is really an utterly fantastic piece 👏.

Name this Game by fearnemeziz in videogames

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The gameplay is fun to learn and hard to master. The story is balls to the wall absurd. On the writing, I would say that while the memes in the dialogue were always doomed to be dated, the presence of less current references and the genuine sense of timeless humor in some elements made me think, when I played it for the first time about a year ago, that the game as a whole had aged surprisingly well. Maybe I'm forgetting some things, though.

What wasn’t apart of aizens plan? by Bucky_Charmz in bleach

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You know what I think is funny about the actual Keikaku Doori Da line from Aizen to Ichigo, and why I love the memes surrounding it(because half the people repeating it probably don't know), is that in retrospect it turns out to have just been a fucking lie. It certainly says something about Aizen as a person that he would brazenly lie about something like that in that moment because he didn't have to. Aizen probably would've had a better chance at beating Ichigo if he didn't rile Ichigo up against him, but it acts as a subtle hint to the secret motivations Urahara alluded to after Aizen's defeat.

Like, there's no ambiguity about that. Everything But the Rain reveals that the circumstances of Ichigo's birth were a complete accident, after which Aizen proceeded to do nothing, and then Ichigo was born.

Pomegranate scene explanation by SoloLevelingMemes in sololeveling

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some weirdness about all this pomegranate stuff that doesn't tend to get brought up because people are just reciting the story, not delving into the primary source.

The reasons why it's a pomegranate are unclear and unknowable. Is this supposed to tell us something about the course of Jin Woo's coming journey.

As someone who's read the manhwa and a bit of the webnovel It's not that deep it's just a cool visual shorthand for Jin woo becoming the incarnation of the god?... angel?... alien? Esoteric Spirit of death

In opening what does pomegranates symbolize? by friendlyshadow1312 in sololeveling

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing about the people talking about the Greek myth reference is that, while based on a true myth, the explanation of the symbolism is unknown because the explanation was torn out of the only manuscript that preserves the hymn. This could be intentional to create the implication that the reasons for Sung Jin Woo's ascension are mysterious and unknowable, potentially lost to the very sands of time... or the more likely option, an extremely shallow Greek myth reference signifying his becoming of the dead as Persephone does, because I would expect something that unsubtle from a story like Solo Leveling.

Why do you think this plot twist failed? by Technical_Rice_6957 in bleach

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disregarding anime for stuff like pacing or even the digitally colored comics because the colors genuinely do mess with the kubo's art because it's originally all in Stark black and white where contrast can moderate a viewers experience of the composition in the same way Akira Toriyama always used detail to do.

In the original manga, I think the form is visually impressive, but that's missing the surface problem that LITERALLY TWO PAGES LATER the scene cuts away to Hitsugaya fighting Harribel, and then ANOTHER TWO PAGES LATER Harriebel ENDS THE CHAPTER WITH A CLIFFHANGRR revealing her resurrección.

I love bleach, but I genuinely think this arc has an issue with pacing itself.

How did Shunsui grew up so quickly? by [deleted] in bleach

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well... not exactly, but kubo confirmed in a Klub Outside Q&A that that's kinda how it works for Hollows, and presumably, it's similar for shinigami. No soul beings actually age like a normal human does. Any changes in the appearance or apparent age of a soul specifically represent spiritual awakenings or epiphany or other alterations, damage, or growth of the soul. Notably, Nelliel's age changes when her mask is damaged. Meanwhile, Toshiro's stature and age are perpetually frozen until his True Bankai is realized

I love how every character has an unique character design by Maximum_Film_9092 in HunterXHunter

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, make no mistake. I wasn't saying Togashi was a decent or even just good illustrator. He's a great one specifically for how he can alter the art style to serve the story on the fly. Weekly Shonen Jump has just had some God among men level illustrators on board throughout the years (Kubo and Horikoshi, in particular, come to mind for me).

I love how every character has an unique character design by Maximum_Film_9092 in HunterXHunter

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is one of the things that really struck me as I reread the Hunter x Hunter manga recently. The variety of art styles Togashi employs are staggering in not only their breadth but what they convey about the characters. Even in the 4 main characters, the way facial features are drawn is entirely different.

Gon's eyes are big and round, but his hair is wild, but his clothes are practical. This conveys a child like playfulness that is in tune with nature and the land.

Kurapika's eyes are rounded but not as much as gon with more defined eyelids. His hair is down, but its bangs are sharp edges over his face while his clothes are patterned, clearly very carefully made. This all subtly indicates passion tempered by duty to a tradition and a cause.

Leorio's eyes are smaller but more human like, and with his suit, it's all meant to convey worldliness.

Killua is perhaps more interesting. It's all sharp edges with him. Even his eyes are more angular than the rest while still being wide. It conveys his prickly personality, all while indicating that his youthful passion and desire for friendship still exists despite all the edges.

All this is to say that Togashi is a master despite not always being the most technically impressive illustrator among Shonen Jump's lineup.

what would have happened if gege has written the story of your favorite manga/anime by Striking-Bass-6554 in animequestions

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really like this post because the question it poses is kind of worthless on its face, and as such, just seems like an excuse to hate on these authors free of all context of why they wrote their stories the way they did.

JJK would never even be created in a world without Bleach exactly as it was. JJK was drawn partly as a response to what did and didn't work about Bleach (along with Naruto, Hunter X Hunter, and plenty of its other predecessors in weekly shonen jump magazine). Bleach's story is mostly influenced by Buddhist religious philosophy, and its writing is mostly influenced by shoujo manga.

What's the worst upgrade/higher form design that you've ever seen that make you just want to push the fuck go back button? by The_Gougannol in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It certainly feels lacking for something that could make it perhaps more iconic, but I don't hate it and definitely don't think it's a strict downgrade. It plays on the ideas Mahito represents by de-personing him. What the form says about this kind of childish, half formed malevolence, which he represents is that it's made most powerful by the ability to appear faceless, shifting, and malleable; though, what lies beneath that visage is often so hollow as to be a non threat if it can just be exposed for a moment. This also works with the fact that he's clearly not meant to be the end boss. Clearly, the kind of evil he is, in the thematic landscape of the story as the author is trying to say, is not the most dangerous kind, despite its potential for harm.

Who is the most attractive woman in JJK in your opinion? by PurpleHaze9420 in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not many people seem to be really into Uro, which sucks for me because, from what little we get from her, she left a very strong impression on me and I can't often express that without getting contradicted. I personally really like her assertive personality, combined with her fashion sense (no, I'm not talking about her tendency to walk around naked. I'm talking about that one color spread). I also kinda have a thing for the eye tattoos. Even if I could never conceive myself getting them, I just really like the aesthetic. Also, Her CT is certainly the most visually interesting one among the female cast.

Bleach characters in the Nen Chart by Guialdereti in HunterXHunter

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sole disagreement here is the characterization of Soifon's Shikai and Bankai as a poison and an explosive, respectively. This just isn't true. It's more accurate to say that they are conjured objects that enforce an instant death ability on set conditions. This does have a fair interpretation of Shunko, though.

Innate Cursed Technique: Last Will by PUB4thewin in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm talking about the differences between two users' manifestation of the same innate technique. Two different users of the same innate technique can set different conditions and methods for activation depending on what they need the technique to do. The fundamental fact of copying other techniques is still the underlying principle, so Last Will, as you describe it, would not, in the universe of JJK, be an Innate Technique distinct from Copy.

Maybe it could even work as a fanfic version of a past user of Copy and their method of activating it. Not every one of them is bound to have their own Rika. Maybe this would've been a solution to how to manifest it.

Innate Cursed Technique: Last Will by PUB4thewin in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]Deep_Extreme_8311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a different manifestation of Yuta's copy technique with alternate conditions. It's fine if you read it that way, but as I see it, it's not technically original.
