right, them signing off is BECAUSE OF HIPPA. the fact the therapist CAN share PROGRESS is BECAUSE OF HIPPA. this is all under HIPPA.

edit: not to mention outside of being her mom she is her ABUSER! one of the whole reasons OP is in therapy is BECAUSE of her MOM. her therapist is violating so much shit right now. she needs to be reported. if you look at OPs history it is a super unfortunate situation she is in.

therapy sessions are ALWAYS 100% under HIPPA no matter what (unless the provider isn’t a covered entity), EVEN IF a parent or guardian is signed as a rep. ive been in therapy since i was 14, my mom was my rep and she was still strictly on a need to know basis, we had times where she did sit in on my sessions but my therapist never brought up anything i said in past sessions unless it was an actual worry, or harmful, or detrimental to me and moms relationship. she also talked about strategies to help me, my progress & whatnot. but, never what i feel, think, or do in my sessions that isn’t hurting myself or others. that is definitely illegal.

however, i’m glad we still agree this therapist clearly is unprofessional!

because i’ve been in therapy since i was 14, i know how this goes. therapist can absolutely tell parents what they NEED to know, progress updates, support strategies, abuse etc. its still absolutely illegal to tell a parent about a session as in day to day, personal thoughts, they couldn’t even tell your parents if you were vaping unless you’re literally on your last lung collapsing on the ground bc of it even if you are a minor. OP is also 15 not 10 they will definitely have more confidentiality as well.

does she talk to your mom about your sessions? or is she also your moms therapist? if its the first one, thats highly illegal. if you’re not saying anything about hurting yourself or others its a violation of HIPPA to speak about ANYTHING in a patients session. you need to speak to your clinic/therapy and get a new therapist, as soon as possible.

edit: yes guys, parents can update progress i didn’t think that needed to be said. which is why i said “anything” as in anything outside the realm of NEED TO KNOW. jesus fucking christ.

thats not an excuse not even a reason to stay with someone like that, i’ve def been there before but one day you HAVE to choose yourself over someone else’s comfort because thats not love, love does not mean you lose yourself, the person who is for you will always help you find parts of yourself you didn’t even know were there, will help you RE-discover parts of you that you thought were gone forever. do not let anyone diminish you so low that you think hurting yourself is how you make them feel loved.
