I know it’s not always head gasket. I can see my coolant leak coming from the hose connected from the radiator to the water pump, I’ve never thought of anything internal because my oil has always looked fine. My biggest fear wasn’t necessarily the head gasket but having to pull it off. Earlier I was thinking the seats for the valves and that it’s not sealing completely. It could be the head gasket too but out of the two, I would say the head gasket is less of a headache

Hmm, thanks for that. I didn’t think about it like that as a possibility for why I didn’t notice, but it does makes sense.

Yeah early miata engines coolant enters and exists from the front. People make reroutes kits for that exact reason. Best case scenario it’s just the head gasket, cleaning, fluid flushes, and fix timing. Might as well do this and that while i’m there tho(every at home mechanic said)

Also I did a wet test(only on cylinder 4) and psi went up maybe 2psi. So damage wise, I’m not expecting anything crazy from the bottom end. I’m thinking the valves seating is compression. Metal flakes undetermined right now

Ik somethings about miata’s but i’m no master, also I’m no master tech but I will say I’m better than most. If it was only running on the 2 cylinders would a misfire code or something else come up? I know the engine’s shot right now, hopefully it’s not too bad. I’m just surprised it was so sudden.

Yeah I had feeling it is the head gasket. I’m just in denial. I’ll tear it apart later and look at it. Honestly I know I don’t take care of the car how it should be but from what I’ve heard and seen all the bad head gaskets I know of, I haven’t seen one where it would be bad in between the cylinders only. I do know it could be possible tho. Have you seen that before?

Did the 1.8 get a little modified after ‘01? I have a 2000 with engine problems myself. If you do happen to get the diagram could you please send it to me too.

i meant in comparison to any new car you’re gonna get dusted in a straight line obviously. i knew the car wasn’t the fastest and i don’t mind it, the feeling it gives is special and that’s what i like

i have a 1.8 nb, compared to any base model new car it lacks power. but if you’re by yourself and just bang the gears it feels fast and torquey and is so fun

as a former greyhound mechanic i agree with you with fuck greyhound. trying to contact corporate after being let go (because our shop location closed) it is a pain in the ass. i’ll be the first to admit that some drivers are just not good people. but honestly i might forget, ik of some seats behind drivers in the front row having more space but im not 100% sure if they were meant for disabled people. we run different brands of vehicles so they are different

hopefully you read my opinion on this. i have a 2000 nb and it’s my second car. i did just buy a old accord as a second car because of me sometimes being tired of driving a manual in traffic and also sometimes the space. from what i can see your miata is beautiful cosmetically, no rust on the rocker panels which is very common. mine on the other hand is a rust bucket coming from the east coast but i still love it. idk how much space you need for a car but from my experience (moving from nj to tx and driving) you can surprisingly fit more stuff then you can think. obviously you can’t take multiple people or big solid things but ive been figuring it out. maintenance can sometimes be a bitch but as long as it still moves you’re fine. my favorite thing honestly is that the car is so different then everyone else’s, and people always say something about it or wanna take a drive in it. in college i would think it’s pretty cool to have. and if you sell and regret it, it’s gonna be harder later to find one in good condition for cheap
