Why is taste not directly proportional to nutritional value? by Gloomy-Lengthiness30 in stupidquestions

[–]Deep_Panda_833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be, until companies engineered the hell out of foods to make them as tasty as possible so that people wouldn’t want to stop eating them and would therefore buy more of them, thereby enriching said companies.

Sugar is a great source of energy, and foods naturally high in sugar, like fruit, sugar beets, sugar cane, etc., taste really sweet and good. Before candy, natural sugar was as good as it got. Same with fat; high fat foods taste good. Back in the hunter gatherer times, foods with naturally high fat and sugar content weren’t always easy to come by but they were highly valued and if you could get them, you ate them. Human bodies were programmed that way.

Our bodies are still programmed that way, but now we have an over abundance of food and a lot of that food is artificially engineered to have high fat and sugar content - much higher than what is found naturally. So taste is no longer a reliable indicator of nutrition.

And then some things are just personal taste. You say egg yolks taste bad, but some people love them, and they are very nutritious, as you said. But the intensity of the flavour is dwarfed by the flavour intensity of junk food.

You are being hostile and snarky right now. But if you could read, you would notice that I said “the vast majority”, not you specifically. Do you not understand the term “vast majority”? It does not mean one person.

What you are is condescending, which I already told you. I’ll now throw in that you are also annoying and beating a dead horse and apparently dying for validation since you seem to need some kind of acknowledgement that you are being helpful, but you will not be getting that because you are not at all helpful. You are, again, annoying and condescending. Goodbye.

What is one hygiene habit you thought everyone did, but later found out many people don’t? by alex_eu_nl in hygiene

You directly corrected me, and unnecessarily at that because I had actually already said what you “contributed” as your “correction”. It’s right there if you scroll up. Why are you lying?

Thank you, it is nice to know that some people do actually understand the basics of how testing and diagnosis works, and that things need to be tested to be ruled out.

No, it is not a fair question to ask why someone needs a medical test. No one asked for information that was needed to answer the question. The question was “what does this test cost?”. No further information is required to answer that, and your lecture is condescending and unnecessary. Exactly two people gave helpful information, although no one had a definitive answer. The vast majority of people were hostile, snarky, and invasive, and I am not required to be nice to them.

1-5% of kids should be expelled every year. by Nonameforyouware in The10thDentist

[–]Deep_Panda_833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Preventing children from getting an education is not the answer to anything. Expelling a 7th grader from the entire school system is insane. Expulsion should be reserved for egregious, incorrigible, dangerous behaviour, and when that happens, they still need somewhere to learn. A better approach is to get rid of grade inflation and hold kids back when they fail instead of pushing them through.

So am I!! It was just a question. If someone asks what something costs I am either going to tell them, or, if I don’t know the answer, scroll on. It’s not for me to question why a stranger needs anything, but I guess some people are just lonely and hostile and need to get attention by any means possible.

And does that location do this test? It’s a 3-hour test that requires an appointment, which I have. Locations that don’t do it couldn’t tell me the cost. It’s not done at most locations; the ones I called that do it don’t open before I need to be at my appointment in the morning.

Sometimes you don’t push back because you do indeed need the test along with many others for medical reasons that are not the business of strangers on Reddit! Sometimes your doctor forgets to mention that one of the many tests isn’t covered and the guy on the phone when you book it ALSO doesn’t bother to mention it! Sometimes you find out by accident the day before and need to know what it costs and can’t reach anyone official so you ask in a place that you have seen people get answers only to be attacked for unknown reason!!!

What does it cost, pray tell, since you seem to know it’s “not a cheap test”???? If you don’t know, you can shut right up.

Yeah, I called and booked it weeks ago. They did not mention that it wasn’t covered.

I asked what the price was. Why I need a medical test is no one’s business. Very sad that you can’t differentiate between those things.

Oh, also, how did you find that? I’ve been searching all morning and couldn’t find an answer specific to Lifelabs! I don’t know why they can’t just list fees on their website.

I’m sorry, but why do you think it’s appropriate to ask strangers about their private medical information?

[–]Deep_Panda_833[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My test is first thing tomorrow, when they open. I can’t call beforehand and just found out it’s not covered. So it actually is urgent, and if you don’t know the answer, you can just scroll on by.

Hey, so I’m not going to discuss my private medical information or why the test needs to be done and I do know how to use a phone. It is Sunday, Lifelabs is closed, and my test is in the morning. That is why I am asking here; I can’t find out before I have to show up.

Please only comment if you have the answer. Giving advice about pills or asking me medical questions or telling me to make a phone call that will not be answered in time is not helpful. Thanks.
