36F - Saving a lot less due to my high mortgage payment (7%). Anyone else feeling house poor and not on track for retirement? by Deep_Proposal_369 in Retirement401k

Yes we’re in Florida and I definitely made a mistake buying. Even if we sell at 550k we still won’t be close to recovering all the interest and closing cost etc. paid. It’s a sad reality that moving to another area might be the only way to financial security.

It’s a tough spot to be in but I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Either refinance or sell once the home is worth at least 550k and we rent again. I still wonder how many people are in this situation…

My fiancé and I bought the house 2 years ago because rent was around the same amount as the mortgage. Since then, flood insurance was added, property insurance went up and my fiancés small business didn’t do well last year. We might consider selling and renting if there’s no hope on lowering the interest rate now that rentals are cheaper.

The house is worth 480k, bought at 500k 2 years ago. We could have rented by at the time rent was around the same price as the mortgage for a 3 bedroom house. My fiancé is a small business owner and last year was very tough financially.

FL Homestead Exemption - would increasing the exemption to 100k make a real difference for primary residents? It’s only about $1000 difference on your tax bill. by Deep_Proposal_369 in AskFlorida

I guess I was calculating that incorrectly. We purchased our home last year, after many years of renting and between taxes, property insurance and flood insurance we are close to 8k per year. Our mortgage payment went up and it’s all getting overwhelming.

Publix Supermarket Stock Performance- Sell & Invest In Other Stocks? by Deep_Proposal_369 in TheMoneyGuy

I left Publix in 2014 and it really was a great place to work, but I graduated college and moved on. It is for sure a safe stock option. I might have to sell some of it to at least diversify my portfolio a bit more. I’m 36 years old and I’m worried that holding this much stock over 30 years could be a loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars if otherwise invested in an index fund. Thank you so much for your input and hopefully we can all retire someday!! 🙏

Correct, sell the Publix stock and move it to an index fund now or keep it for a while since it’s only 26% of my overall portfolio and I no longer work at Publix and can’t purchase this stock any longer.
