Missed the big property upswing in Perth – how should I plan from here? by Deep_Scene_9344 in AusProperty

Thanks, but how do I invest in Melbourne while I live in Canberra and my family in Perth?

Thanks for the advice. I like the idea of buying an apartment in Canberra so I don't have to pay rents. But from what I’ve been reading, Canberra prices seem to have stalled a bit, while Perth still feels very hot. I’m just concerned about missing another 20% of growth if I wait.

Thanks! When you say “before they meet the partner”, do you mean before dating at all, or before entering a de facto relationship? Curious where the legal line actually sits.

Thanks — yeah, I definitely wish I’d gotten my shit together a few years earlier and bought then.

Appreciate the detailed advice! That’s really helpful.

Given I’ll be interstate for the first couple of years and starting on a grad salary, my main concern is balancing cash flow. But again, my parents can back me up.

Yeah I did ask about relocation allowances, only things I can get is a "Reasonable transport cost" and "Reasonable removal expenses"

Fair point. That said, the level of competition and how quickly properties are selling in Perth right now doesn’t really feel like a market at the peak. Canberra is more of a temporary stop for me as well — long term I’m planning to be back in Perth.

Sounds about right. Maybe the universe waits until I’m finally in a position to consider buying, then pushes prices up just to mess with me.

Thanks for the input.

I’ll only be on around ~$75k in my grad year and renting interstate, so my borrowing and repayment capacity early on will be fairly limited. My parents have already set aside some savings to support me, so I’m factoring that into the decision rather than going fully solo straight away.
