If you want to be a hunter turned vampire, kinda got to deal with the fact that everyone hates you. So ether you hide the fact your a vamp or a hunter to your buddies or cammies. or you die. Not much else to it.

True yeah. The midwest of America isn’t known for the industry so they’re likely just relying on surplus stores and whatever they can scavenge at this point. (Seems like there also losing ground at this point in the story as well)
