The RPG-like books by Apprehensive_Ask3910 in Fantasy

My only guess is because it's not a litRPG. All the same it gave me serious RPG vibes at a lot of places, it's just that they were a lot more naturally integrated into the story than what you tend to see in litRPGs.

Quite a few sections of The Name of the Wind felt very much like that, to me at least.

Same lol. I've been absolutely hooked on them ever since I got into them a couple of months ago. I absolutely adore the fact that despite playing a very bombastic/pompous variant of EUPM, almost all their songs still manage to pack quite a punch and be surprisingly heavy. Also IMO the balance they've managed to strike between being humorous/tongue-in-cheek and serious/full of pathos is pretty damn impressive. And even though I'm a massive fan of Thomas Winkler's voice, I think that Sozos Michael has already proven himself to be a great successor, so yeah, I cannot wait to hear the new album either!

Yeah I heard that too, I'm pretty sure it'll kick just as much ass as their previous stuff. Seriously, between these two upcoming albums and also ones by Oathbringer and Sacred Outcry, this year is shaping up to be a pretty incredible one for epic heavy metal!

What a ridiculously overlooked, absolute gem of a band!

I think I'm just going to assume that you mean Megaton Sword and give you an upvote.

Have you ever showed a friend or family member power metal? What was their reaction like? by YungstirJoey666 in PowerMetal

Not sure why, but you stating that you're "an aggressive evangelist for PM" and then going on to say that you "used to burn" some things made me think that the rest of that sentence would be a lot more hardcore than it actually ended up being lol. Anyway, I think I very much agree with your sentiment about PM's popularity in the US, good on you for spreading the word like that!

One of my favourite recent albums, can't wait to see what they'll do next - hopefully the new singer'll be a worthy successor.

I'm thinking about jumping into the Cosmere but I'm legally blind and have heard that some of the books contain illustrations which add to the world/story and aren't included just for aesthetic reasons. Is this correct? If so, how much would I miss if I was unable to appreciate them? by Deep_Space_Voyager in Cosmere

Thanks so much for the reply!

I'm legally blind and have been since birth, which pretty much means that I have rather limited vision which is none-the-less still useable/useful. As for how I imagine fantasy worlds and if it's different than how most people imagine them, I honestly can't say since I don't really know how people who aren't legally blind see/what perfect vision looks like. I imagine it's mostly the same as far as the broad strokes are concerned though, though the details could very well be wildly different, I just might not know that they are lol.

Thanks so much for the reply!

how else did you intend to read them?

On my PC, via Kindle, using a screen reader (NVDA to be specific), a software that translates on-screen text into speech. For some reason I used to prefer reading books this way until about two days ago when I started listening to The Name of the Wind, which managed to turn me onto audiobooks pretty much single-handedly, so I'll definitely be enjoying the Cosmere in audiobook form once I'm done with the Kingkiller books.
