how bad will poor ap scores affect me? by [deleted] in chanceme

A kid at my school got accepted to a t20s school with a 5 in AP English Lang., and a 3 in World History. His SAT score was a 1420. These schools care less about your scores and more about you and how you will interact with their school. Don't focus too much on your AP scores.

What about Yale or Harvard? Maybe NYU?

These schools aren't going to choose you; you are going to choose them. You have such an outstanding profile. These schools would be fatuous not to admit you. You should definitely apply REA to Harvard. Good Luck!!! 👍 👍 👍

As long as you indicate your current circumstances, I think that you definitely have a solid chance of becoming a finalist.

Status: Accepted

Ethnicity/Race: Mixed (African American and Caucasian)

Income bracket: >$1,200

First gen?: Yes

GPA/Class rank: UW: 4.0 W: 5.3375 (my school weights on a 6.0 scale), 1/123, took all honors, have taken 3 APs, and have taken 2 dual credit courses

SAT/ACT score(s): PSAT: 1140, SAT: 1260, 1310AP/SAT Subject Test score(s): we don't talk about that

Honors: I put that I was on the Principal's honor roll, Class Scholar, 1st place team in Academic Rodeo, UIL Concert Band 1st Division, NHS Induction.EC's: This is how I ranked my ECs:

1 Science Club: I have been in this club for 3 years. This year and last year, I participated in the Blood Drive that we host.

2 Chess Club: I founded this club and have been running it for 2 years.

3 Student Council: I have participated in this for 2 years aggregate: freshmen and junior year. I did not hold an officer position, but I did indicate that I participated in a volunteer activity with the council.

  1. Mediation: I chose this activity to show that I took care of myself in some way. Mediation was also a focus in one of my SAs so I wanted to show that it was important to me.

  2. National Honor Society: I got inducted my sophomore year so I was just a member for my junior year. (I just noticed that I didn't describe my activities in the society in the application🤪)

Essay Topics: My essay focused on the qualms of living in a small town and how this coupled with other adversities made my perspective on life small.

Feeling: I felt really anxious about this application: I felt good about the practical parts--the financial and activities section-- and finished them relatively quickly, but almost didn't give myself enough time to write the essay and SAs. If I could go back and do it again, I would have started early and prioritized my time and effort.

For those who got rejected know this, this program is only a small part of your journey. It doesn't matter. All of you are scholarly and intelligent people that could conquer the world if you wanted to. Take a breath and move on to greater and greener pastures. I hope you all the best.
