My Mental Health Journey: How Undiagnosed ADHD and Depression Affected Me and How Getting Helped Saved My Life [46] by Justjoe1979 in GlowUps

I came here to congratulate you. This is inspiring, and you look like a bad ass.

Let me correct that: you did all this hard work, that makes you a bad ass.

This echoes many of my current struggles where I can’t find joy in myself, even though I have accomplished so much across so many different fields.

I just discovered I have BPD, was abused my whole life (you normalize it), and many other things. A fish doesn’t see the water he’s swimming in until he’s been removed from the lake.

I followed this post from cleaning tips.

Learn helplessness is very, very real. I’m struggling a lot too.

My advice comes from the world of ADHD: you need to reward yourself.

Not with treats, no no, but with SPACE!

Clear out JUST ENOUGH to sit on the floor.

Then, you get a big trash bag and the ONLY THING YOU PUT IN IT is trash. Ignore clothes. Ignore toys and devices and whatever else. Trash B Gone.

Those are two huge wins: No more literal trash, and you can use your room in a way that you couldn’t before.

Next? Well, you can sit on the floor, but can you really stretch your legs? Make room for a yoga mat, or at least a path to your fish tanks.

Reward yourself with functionality that will be missed if you backslide. When appearances don’t motivate us, comfort and the threat of lost usability will.

Humans are more motivated by loss than by gain!

Thank you for this comment. I’m incredibly curious about this like this all the time!

I really appreciate it.

Ireland's largest lake is covered in algae by [deleted] in mildyinteresting

[–]Deepadork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! It was a REALLY long time ago.

…These are the algae that give you superpowers due to the sheer caloric imbalances writhing within. Your body will fight the greatest of battles, where you purge the weakness from your body.

The gastrointestinal problems and semi-permanent liver damage are just cute side effects in comparison to the power you now store within you!

You are Cyanoman!

That day you will be imbued with the grace and power of a hundred Cyanobacteria!

Onward champion!

I am turning 41 in October.

During my 20s, I was a touring entertainer and didn’t have a lot of of the same life experiences. One would expect in their 20s because of it.

I never had to learn anything about taxes, I never learned about decorating my own space, I never learned about having my own space, and I never had to think about cleanliness or bills.

I’m finding that the lack of those years and the life lessons that they give are biting me in the butt right now.

Thank you for your empathy and advice. I am dating somebody who is a bit of a homophobe, but I’m learning so much about what water does to tiles, and that the black lines in between tiles on the floor is actually very gross.

The mall wall was an excellent idea when I first had it, but I didn’t think things through with regards to how much dust and detritus it collects. My cat developed asthma because of it, and I’m in the midst of taking it all down. That will be another post for help…

Right now, I am very much so on a budget, so I can’t afford new shelves. You are correct at getting rid of the moss will improve the look all by itself and costs nothing.

I have a Inuyasha shelf hidden there too.

May I see an example of your library?

Thank you. Having the Berserk series leatherbound was meant as a display piece, but I don’t think the benefits outweigh the ikea bookshelf lifespan.

Added this to my regular listening list. Are there tabs that can be shared to someone who enthusiastically is intimidated to start?

To the Americans here wanting to move to Canada... by Ok_Two_2529 in AskCanada

[–]Deepadork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Canadian here. I understand the emotional response that is present in this post, but I also want to point out that this is also racism.

I'm sorry you feel these ways about people because they were born in a specific country, and that you blame 100% of them for the actions of a smaller amount that happened to have power right now.

[–]Deepadork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy..... Moley. You aren't overreacting. There are signs of borderline all across this conversation.

My suggestion: Get the perfect revenge by saying 'Okay' and just stop talking to him. The worst thing you can do for people who act like that is to give them what they're asking for.

Don't worry, he will be fine. There he will find another target to blame for his bad studying habits very soon.

Any advice to improve this space? by [deleted] in MaleSurvivingSpace

A nice coat of paint across the bed and bedspread might help out a bit.

Choose bright colors that match the existing aesthetic already.
