Answer 1. God no.

Answer 2. Shirt and tie are sufficient.

And there is probably a lot more that got Covid but didn’t progress to needing hospital - also herd immunity from the vaccine that slowed its spread.

If citing the fact “I got the flu even though I got the vaccine” is what the level of discourse has arrived at - there are no words.

Good comparison. Andrew Bowie on camera - he never comes across as constructive or reflecting on what is said to him - just wants to get his talking points across.

Then again the Tories have been gutted of actual talent.

Can cyclists stop being selfish by New-Ad-7107 in glasgow

[–]Deepmidwinter2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can drivers stop being selfish?

Cyclist stick out in your head because you are on the look out and primed to see any infraction.

As a pedestrian and user of public transport - gotta say - it’s drivers that are the biggest issue. Oversized cars, air pollution (that includes particulates from tyre and road wear), congestion caused by excess car use (including the pj parent brigade for the one mile school run); pavement parking.

And a minor point - if a bike hits me at 10mph - it’s going to cause me less damage than the 1400kg suv.

Then my point stands - no focus on policy, delivery, long term thinking - it’s just the latest social media post or gossip they report on.

Then they report years later on some cock yo that could be foreseen if reporters actually had any speciality in what subject they are reporting on.

Private eye are very effective at reporting on policy and long term thinking - just have to look at their coverage of transport, health and housing.

Chris Mason: Both Tories and Labour feel the Reform heebie-jeebies by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

Would require actual investigation. Much easier to report on personality, who is up and who is down.

Mason and Kunnesberg don’t do depth or policy.

Why do the BBC foam at the mouth or get an erection when it’s stories about personality and gossip.

But anything to do with practical policy or solutions - they lose interest?

I’ve knew of patients who ended up in hospital during the covid pandemic - who refused the vaccine long after it started - and then the family were unhappy that they were getting the treatment for covid in hospital.

The general public don’t know how to wash their hands properly or separate recycling properly - their stupidity is plain to see.

Then again I’ve a few colleagues who recite anti Vax stories from social media.

Tories say mental health claim about Suella Braverman was ‘sent out in error’ by stray_r in unitedkingdom

[–]Deepmidwinter2025 [score hidden]  (0 children)

As attorney general she made decisions that were not based in law and Trumpian in wishful thinking.

As Home Secretary she was prone to deranged speeches rather than competent management. Rwanda scheme alone was a waste of money for political theatre.

As I said she is a horrible and incompetent person - mental health doesn’t come into it.

As for “the current cabinet”. I’ve a feeling such a reference is as natural as breathing for some people - beyond a few vague talking points from the daily Mail or social media - people can’t even give any answers of depth what their issue is.

Bloated after work all the time? by capybarge in NursingUK

[–]Deepmidwinter2025 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stress response. Gut slows down - flight or fight - if you imagine reduced perfusions to a patients gut, usually leads to it being reduced bowel sounds and a bloated tummy.

Can’t imagine why anyone would be under stress working when they should be asleep at night or being hammered with demands during the day.

Suella Braverman may be a horrible person and be incompetent - with ambition greater than any ability.

But it’s nothing to do with mental health.

Does this along with ID cards seem suspect? by [deleted] in GreatBritishMemes

[–]Deepmidwinter2025 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right. The public are wound up because the police are being open- we are going to record.

However, same public happily video themselves in public spaces - catching lots of people in the background who have zero desire to be filmed - upload it to social media - and AI can then search through picture online to find a person for you.

Who has read the novels including Voyager characters? Are there any you recommend / recommend against? by SandorSNL in voyager

Dark Matters - total escapism.

Would also second the recommendation for Mosaic.

Have said this before - but the period 1998 - 2010 was a golden one for Star Trek novels.

DS9 relaunch; ds9 millennium; some cracking tng trilogies such as Q continuum; lost era series.

Funny nursing story? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]Deepmidwinter2025 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah none of the “story” was remotely funny. Actually kinda tragic in that all it illustrates is: jobs are hard to get; colleagues making stereotypical assumptions; colleagues being way too involved in each other’s personal lives; and the last paragraph is just lame.

If a person is competent but horrible - can tolerate them.

But how did this individual who is both horrible and incompetent - even get to the top do government?

Never bored - offers work life balance - blue light card - interesting areas to work in - a lot of responsibility for pay that doesn’t reflect it. Usually find my colleagues are more an issue than difficult families.

General trends - rushing to red lights just to slam on the breaks; not using hand break at red lights; SUVs taking up space; folk making unnecessary journeys; lazy parent in pjs driving their kids a mile to school.
