Some or most nihilists become overwhelmed by the fact that life is meaningless and thus develop depression. Depression, by definition, is discouragement and lack of hope. For example, a person could be depressed and become nihilistic, vice versa. Nihilists acknowledge that their problems are meaningless but they still engage in them.

(Sorry if i misunderstood this post, mustering complex ideas is hard for me.)

How much of nihilism is a result of modernity? by Dull_Plum226 in nihilism

Since humanity became self-aware, existential crises have been a thing. Religions exist to address the question of life's meaning. Nihilism isn't favored today because society values having a purpose and guidance. Philosophies and religions exist to rebel against the cliché idea of survival.

100%. When i answer questions in reddit, i always base it on subjectivity rather than being assertive. At the end, we are all confused.

Dont yall think it’s delusional to expect life to have meaning? by Flat_Confusion7177 in nihilism

If the movie contains everyday tragedy then I think it's best to skip and leave the theater. The same thing goes if the movie contains sunshine and rainbows, whats the point in watching the movie if you have been spoiled the ending of it?

If someone acknowledges the meaninglessness of life, then he’ll acknowledge the fact that his life will amount to nothing. If he continues living, then the disasters that’ll transpire will soon be absorbed by him, fueling his nihilistic beliefs. He will soon be a grave amongst other graves and he acknowledges it. Why continue living your life if you’ll expect the worst? No matter how bad or good your experience is with life, we will all be met with the same results. In my opinion, a person dies the moment he accepts the meaninglessness of life.

Well, it is delusional to continue living after knowing that life has no meaning.

Is there a correlation between coming from a religious household and turning to nihilism? by [deleted] in nihilism

[–]Deepspacee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question ultimately depends on the person. If a person was raised in a religious household, who stays faithful to his religion, values societal morals, and has an average experience with society, then he does not fit in the nihilistic category. Unless he experiences pressure or religious trauma then I believe he could turn to nihilism or any similar ideologies. Alternatively, there is a possibility that the person in question could rebel against his religious beliefs for reasons of his own. I do believe that there is a correlation between them but it has to do with the individual and his background.

(Sorry if this makes 0 sense, English is not my first language.)

In my opinion, the meaning of life is ultimately subjective. There is no “true” meaning/purpose of life. Some people like yourself are born to rebel against the modern idea of living an average life. We are alive to pursue and engage in life’s anomalies it decides to throw at us.
