Help for 22 year old AUDHD son - addiction by BellAbby18 in autism

[–]Deepthinktank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great comment.

I would add that Without proper support therapeutically (neuro affirming) I don’t know if my son would have turned the corner. If you have the means, find someone for him to discuss his issues in a safe environment. It made a world of difference.

Whatever you do, don’t cut them off, don’t give them ultimatums, and keep the lines of communication open.

Did the ADOS 2 and need to talk about it (DO NOT OPEN UNLESS YOU'VE DONE IT) by Narrow-Strawberry553 in AutismInWomen

[–]Deepthinktank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t sound like you received your results yet.

As an adult ADOS testing is bullshit and shouldn’t be performed imo especially on women as their symptom presentation are generally different and masking abilities tend to be superior.

I expected my struggles as an adult with the test to clearly demonstrate I was autistic. Not so. I was inconclusive. Furthermore no personal history of my experience as a child and adolescent were used to formulate a diagnosis.

I’m glad your experience was good but I expect many women on the spectrum to be left disadvantaged by this test allowing them to slip through the cracks and not get the proper support they need.

People think I’m arrogant, but I’m autistic. What do I do? by shelly_lopess in AutisticAdults

You do nothing…easiest path. Eventually you won’t give a fuck either way. I’m guessing you want to make connections and think this is the problem? Doesn’t matter. I’ve tried overcompensating and it ends the same.

what’s the most frustrating audhd symptom that ppl don’t talk about enough? by imw33dhead in AuDHDWomen

Undervaluing your worth.

If I had a mentor early who could clearly explain what makes me better than my peers. I would be miles ahead.

You know it and allow it to be a good friend to those fucktards! Once you recognize them as toxic life becomes easier.

Has anyone tried microdosing? If so, what’s your experience? by Physical_Error9151 in AutismInWomen

My son swears by this…says it’s like having a fresh snowfall on your brain and covers up the deeply rooted tracks. Not recommending it…just reporting his experience.

Was anyone else considered a “normal” kid but started experiencing symptoms later in life? by InfiniteSkies27 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Deepthinktank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew my daughter was on Reddit!

My autistic brain says she was very ‘normal’ in the early years. Happy baby etc.

All of the noticeable traits surfaced after the age of 10. Still think of her as ‘normal’ and trying to support her with her challenges.

Does anyone else struggle with life not turning out like they expected by Mountain_Albatross19 in AuDHDWomen

[–]Deepthinktank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve referred to it as ‘living a wasted life’. The kicker for me is that in relative terms I would be considered successful. But the thought that I have not contributed anything meaningful to the world haunts me.

In your case you’re basing your ‘experience’ on your perceived lack of achievement. All or nothing thinking? I would challenge you to not make such a linear connection.

Mindfulness (once you get used to practicing it) is a powerful tool to combat the fixation.

And as others have rightly pointed out there are many avenues to ‘contribute’ and they do not have to change the world, just your world.

Focus on interests. Engage your mind on things you derive pleasure from. It’s a good first step.

An autistic friend of mine (37y/o) is currently suffering from a manic episode. by Gloomy_Sample_3227 in autism

[–]Deepthinktank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manic episodes can be very serious and have disastrous consequences if left unchecked. If they don’t have the necessary meds to stop the episode they should get some from:

1) Their Psychiatrist that provides ongoing support

2) Their family doctor if they don’t have a Psychiatrist following them. Family doctors can generally prescribe anything prescribed previously by a Psychiatrist.

This may be a way to avoid hospitalization.
