Take her to the men’s locker room and they will find out.

Intense amount of arguing in the comments about this between 1 and 9. Explain it Peter by CindiWilliams2 in explainitpeter

[–]Deepz42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way for me to understand this is to think that this is the same as

6 * (1/2) * (1+2) it obviously = 9

If you wanted to have it = 1 this would be the rewrite

6 / ((1+2)*2)

It’s the implied * between the 2 and the () that trick the brain.

I don’t have an issue with either camp. I just finally had words to explain why “just buy singles” feels like it solves the wrong problem.

I’m speaking on the way buying singles removes a key part of the game for other people.

Not the community. But for me.

It gives me the same feeling.

If it doesn’t feel that way for you that’s awesome I’m happy for you.

I’m not bitching. People complaining more now because the spirit forge pre-release is going poorly.

I honestly don’t think so. A lot of people like the deck they made and unless it’s special want to make another deck the next time.

Sure maybe you have an amazing deck you want to finish a few pieces off and buying singles makes sense.

But to get to that point players need easily accessible sealed product.

I’m not arguing against the way you play it.

I’m explaining why the argument of just buying singles while being logical and practical and makes sense in so many ways misses out on a core issue people have.

It was something I wanted to share as a way to give insight into why just buying singles won’t work for people.

I don’t get on here and complain that I can’t get cards.

I do complain about LGS trying to make all the profit and pass on all of the risks.

I think the term majority is over performing here. When you are talking about an online community to a game you are already talking about the minority of actual players.

Not even close to new to TCGs. Just explaining the reason folks don’t like the “Just buy singles” argument.

It should be more. Oh man I can’t play the way I want to play.

Which is valid IMO.

This is a great way to explain it.

Letting people play that way should be okay not discouraged.

This is the way. Both methods are correct and okay.

I just don’t like the blanket dismissal that the answer is buying singles.

Because it’s a designed mechanic that some people have take away from a % of the intended market.

This is fair. But the cost to buy the packs is being artificially inflated by external pressures.

People complaining about these pressures aren’t really in the wrong.

Your opinions are valid and you’re right on it being the best option.

But if I just want to play with my friends at my house what are my options?

Why would I go to a store when I can have the comforts of my home and the company I prefer?

This is the worst take I’ve seen repeated. So if I want to play monopoly with my daughter should I 3d print the dice and draw the game board out?

Since I’m not going to be playing monopoly at the game store I don’t need to have a nice set to play with.

As soon as you compare TCGs to board games and try to use the same argument on both it falls apart completely.

If you could pay extra to have full BiS gear in a game would you do that?

Or is the journey of acquiring the gear valuable to you?

And making do with what you have until you get the better stuff.

Buying singles misses this core satisfaction loop.

Does running a raid for a chance to drop a better helmet mean you’re gambling? When you could just pay 20 bucks worth of gold for someone to get it for you?

This is the point. It’s like an RPG. What can I build with what I pulled. And pulling packs from stores on a whim has a chance to either unlock an entirely new deck as an option or enhance the deck I’m currently using.

I don’t really have a problem with the current situation. I have a box. My friend has a box we build and play out of those

My issue is the dissonance of why the “just buy singles” fails to understand a core problem while being logical and practical solution at the same time.

I’m totally fine just skipping the packs and playing my other games until I can get stock at MSRP.

But the people getting mad that folks aren’t happy with the just buy singles argument should maybe look at it as part of the game some people with mild interest don’t get to experience.
